Help!!!! Been out a few times recently and the clutch seems to be slipping in 5th gear when accelerating hard at about 4000-5000 revs. again out today (got soaked!!) with pillion and it done it again while overtaking and then while doing 70mph in 6th it just reved right up as if out of gear. most of the time the bike rides fine and the clutch seems ok. The bike has done 53k and am unsure if the clutch has ever been done but it has got bmw history to about 45k, any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Worn out:beer:

well its about a good six hour job if you're all prepared and ready with parts and tools.... let me know if you want a hand after you get it all ripped apart!

Ideal thanks for that, are there any special tools needed or anything that will catch me out?

Yes it may be a leaking clutch slave cylinder, contaminating the friction plate.
Remove the starter motor to determine if the friction plate is contaminated or worn out.

Some cash and Steptoes phone number.......book it in have a day out in London then ride it home!

I have a reasonably equipped garage with a ramp an would like to watch being that knowledge is power!!
You are welcome to pop round for a look, also a very good tea maker indoors

Best suggestion yet.

It certainly sounds like your clutch has gone, its about the right mileage and all that. Steptoe will be a LOT cheaper than a dealer and you know that the job will be done extremely well.

Well i changed mine so I'll bring my tool box so I shouldn't think so.. though we may need some electrical tape as I can't find mine. I've made the tdc lock and littel bits and bobs for sliding hte gearbox off etc. I also have moly grease for spline while we are there. If it is the seal you will need to fab up a special tool from some pipe... you'll find a thread about it... or at least take a good measurement before removing seal!

Thats great, I will pull the starter out over the weekend and see what I can see and go from there. Will be in touch
