R1150GSA sat nav question

. I've just purchased the migsel mount which allows the sat nav to be mounted above the clocks so I think it's going to be hard to hide the wires.

Any advice would be welcomed.

If you loosen the screen and loosen the silver coloured plate that hides the back of the instruments, you will be able to run up a coax power cable from under that silver plate really easily, leaving a 5 inch (ish) flying lead to connect as you like.......either a 12v switched supply or using a fiver's worth of USB power converter from Ebay like THIS you shouldn't have any probs making a neat install :)

Wtf is a pilot light, have you all converted to gas?

I guess you mean side light or front position light :D

Pedants R Us

Next you'll be haranguing us for calling the 11xx's fast idle a 'choke' even though it's got 'choke' written on it, and according to decades of previous experience it does the job of a choke ;)

No - I'm lying...

Fair point, well made :beerjug:
Now, would you like me to hold your jacket whilst you balance on the back of that chair, and what sized boots do you take? :)

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down :D

Size 10, so your not gonna get your big plates in em :P

As for the choke/fast idle, I have an 1150 so it's broken and never gets mentioned :D

Power to the GPS

Depending on how you want to use it, you may find connecting it to the pilot light circuit worthwhile. It allows it to be switched on and off with the bike, but allows you to programm it when the internal battery is low without the ignition (and of course headlights etc) on. You can do this by switching to the parking light position.

This is how I power mine on a R1150GS. No cutting of wires or splicing, just make up a couple of 'Y' cables made up with male/female spade connectors. One end onto the pilot light bulb, one to the power cable that originally connected to the pilot bulb and the 3rd to the GPS, same for both +\- sides. Easy to fit and remove. Worked for the last 9 years and 60,000 miles with no problem.

Thank you all for your time in replying and the comments were great.

Two pages and 30 posts on how to hard wire a sat nav. Classic.

The majority was questioning the use of pilot light to be fair :D

We are now on the choke/fast idle argument, the next tangent will most likely be oil filling technique.
