Owned this since 2021 and was showing its age a bit - spent the past couple of years slowly getting the bike up to scratch and running nice. A while ago picked up some new panels and tank (custom painted) and finally got round to fitting it all today. See below before and after pictures

Looks good , it is a shame that the R range were always perceived as the poor relations to the GS's whether it be in 1150 or 1200 form . I would always grab the R1150R or R1200R loan bikes from the dealer when my GSA's were in for service . Sad day when they moved over to 800 and then later 310 loan bikes as loan bikes

Looks better.
Now get some silver indicator bulbs!

Had an R1200R for 5 years an amazing machine and very underrated. When out and about several times I was asked "what kind of GS is that?", many asking were not aware that BMW made a roadster.
Toured on it with some GS riders in 2010 and again they had not even seen one and again didn't know BMW made a roadster model. Both commented that they had spent probably 5K more for a well specified GS when my R1200R did everything that they needed.

I had a R1150R and regretted selling it.
Bullet proof mile muncher. Did quite a few continental trips often over 600 miles a day and never felt knackered after doing those long days.
Easy to service, relatively economical, and I had the matching bmw panniers and fitted a slightly larger screen than the bmw sports screen.
Wish I still had it.

Looks excellent well done great job

I always liked the R version and sold a few when at a dealer. The only thing i had against them was it was a bit windy at 6'5" but really the same ability as the rest of the range without the bling and there were better screens for distance. Well done for the revival and I have seen a couple lately that had me thinking...

My loan bike for the last 8/9 years has been an 1150R.
...and it's a pleasure to ride.

Lots of people take a GS and add road tyres, lowered seat etc. On the road, I would say the R is a nicer ride than the GS so would arguably be a better choice for some of us.

I await flaming torches and pitchforks! 😆

Your wanting a ukrser site are ya...👍😁 Great urban bike for steptoes loaner without the drop worry for short rses...

100% PaulG.

My first BMW was a R1150R. Clocked 120.000km in about 4 years on it, traveled across most of Europe.

If you only do tarmac, get a road bike (R/RS or RT) it’ll be better.

The R does decent offroad too I have to admit :D

I was never a big fan of the dark-ferro colour scheme (or what it was called) so I’d say it looks better in silver.
I think BMW did a dark silver version for the last year of production and that looked very nice indeed.

The anniversary Rockster (white/dark blue) was my wet dream.

I sold my 1150R and replaced with a 1200R. Love them both. Granted I added taller screens, lowered the foot pegs and had bar risers. It is just like a GS bar the price, and looks. It rides better at lower revs than the 1200GS on a motorway. Esp the 1150 It's closer to the ground, and goes off road just as well as a GS, as can be attested to at Sids do when crossing farmers fields. Granted, the 1150r didn't quite track straight...:) but it didn't kick me off !

Which is before and which is after? Was it silver to start with, or bumblebee?

The anniversary Rockster (white/dark blue) was my wet dream.

I was given (yes given) an Ed80 last year as a project/spares bike. It's white/black with blue "Ed80" texts. (Interestingly, where the standard Rockster tank is matt black, the Ed80 white is NOT matt, it's more of a satin finish).

I've still got my 4th Rockster (an R1150R with a few bits from the rest of the range), ever since I tried one in 2003 I've been smitten. Fantastic "do-it-all" bike.
