R1150r - what do you think?

I’ve seen those yellow panels with chains on before on a bike on here…..a few years ago…trying to think of the name of the guy who was selling the bike with them on…🤔…..

I remember that paint job.
It belonged to me once. The bike was purchased from this sight. Then I sold it to Gadget if my memory serves me right IMG_0006.jpeg

They all belonged to you once 😂 didn’t Paul B the HPI guy have it as well?

Local dealer has an old R1150R for sale . Looks pretty mint . Sorry didn’t take a photo . Only 4000 ish miles and still has servo brakes and original tyres . So needs new tyres and a service . They’re asking £2k .
Apparently it books at £800 !!

The 1150R in yellow with dark silvery/metalic blue Chequers was an option when new.
It came with the blue metallic engine/gearbox/final drive and throttle bodies.

I have an R1150R as a loan bike. Had it for about 15 years, has a BMW small sports screen, given to me by a customer.
I enjoy riding it in warmer weather :D

There's a load of value in that even with a haggle for the price of a new set of tyres...

The yellow/blue ISH scheme was a colour option and came out at the same time as the 1150ADV as they were both displayed and BMW HQ when I was on a training course, we then had a demo and I sold a couple at the dealer I worked at... I liked it but it was quickly overtaken by the Rockstar incarnation... The direction of travel of the R and ADV has been on a slightly different trajectory...😆👍

I'd rather get a non servo (that would be a 2003-on twin spark) or completely non ABS R, but for that price it is a lot of motorbike regardless and could make sense.
They still look very nice if kept "neat" too.

I do still have a couple of nice machined metal end caps (same finish as the engine) for the telelever arm joints, to replace the factory plastic ones, somewhere in a drawer in my lock up.
I'll bring them to the pub next time, if you buy the bike :D

My 1150R is a twin spark non abs model.. just standard brakes from new,

Forget the Rockster, I’ve had a few in with electronic speedo problems, which seems to be a cross between the old K series set up and the early 1200

I remember, I had for a day or two a few years ago :D

My R1150R too was (actually, is, I still have it) a 2003 Twin Spark non-ABS.
I was wrong above, non servo is from 2007 (my GS). That's why my R was non ABS, as I didn't want servo brakes when I bought it at the time.

This was mine, nearly leant over at Cadwell in 2003 on a BMW skills day. I'd put a Laser exhaust on it by then which with the chip and decat made a big difference and I still regret getting rid of it. I still have the OE exhaust in my shed if anyone wants one.

This is a much younger er-minio at a small track I used to go near Rome.
R1150R was the first thing I took on track.

very very very old photos I have on Flickr

Like you I had Remus Y + exhaust + Laser chip and it made it a bit more lively.

I still have it all, but the bike is in less than great shape these days:

Did some great trips on it. We traveled (2 up) all of Europe.
These days I manage to fill the Adventure panniers when traveling on my own for a week or two... at the time we were better at packing:

I hate tank bags nowadays :D

Here’s the bike in question

As you can see, it’s in pretty good nick .
It needs a full service and new tyres.
Dunno what I’d fit IF I bought it . Michelin Pilot Roads or similar ?
Are the servo brakes liveable ? Understand there’s a kit to remove them but my mechanic hadn’t ever done one and was unsure of the cost .
I’m half tempted to buy it , try knock them down a bit , as it’s going to cost around £700 for a full service and tyres, and more if brakes need de-servoing.

Don’t know the year as main sales guy has nipped out for lunch but what do people think this would be worth if it had a full service and new tyres.
I doubt I’d keep it long but tempted to run it for 6 months and possibly move on if it’s not for me .

Ta for any abuse thoughts 😜

Update to above -the salesman just called me and said he’ll probably buy it , but offered me dibs. So I told him to crack on . He can always pay to get the work done then flog it on to me 😜

If he changes his mind, get it.
It’s mint.

Servo brakes are shit, but you can remove the servo/abs, no biggie.

Exact same bike as I had even down to.the screen, except mine had the fasterer black engine with the laser pipe, decat and chip.

Michelin Pilot Roads or similar ?

I had routinely M1 or Pirelli Diablo. :D
But it was also 20 years ago.
When traveling, at the time I used Metz Z6, never liked them. I'd try Dunlop Roadsmarts. Had those and the sportsmarts on my 1100S and where very good tyres profile-wise and also wear-wise.
R1150R tends to "feel" quite a lot the rear tyre when squared off.

Rear wheel is an odd size, so it limits choice a bit.
