R11GS rear shock

The rubber seal halfway down my rear shock has split.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so:

will it ultimately affect the handling?

will it mean a replacement??

or can it be repaired???

which seal do you mean?

Is it the one that the damper arm runs through?

and is the damper leaking oil?

If you look at the shock from the side of the bike this seal sits halfway down. There is no oil leaking. It's pretty flimsy and looks more like a dust cover. Any ideas??
