R12 G/S Alloy Luggage

The black panniers do suit it. I have black ones and they do get quite hot inside when we have warm dry weather. I have put rubber mat tops on them as I kick them sometimes getting on the bike. The bonus of the rubber tops is one’s coffee doesn't slide off when the bike is on the side stand.

Not seeing what is special about those. Black boxes with a unit sticker? Sheesh.

I’m not sure there’s supposed to be anything special about the black boxes. What makes you think there is something special about them? They look pretty much identical to mine on my Tiger RP.

Was looking at the Enduro model today (the sand coloured bike looks much better in the flesh) and asking about luggage options , the salesman said that BMW have stated that the rear subframe is not designed to take the extra weight and load of racks and pannier systems and if in use the subframe breaks when fitted the part will not be warrantied .
Shame as if it is correct the bike starts becoming a day bike with an occasional pillion rather than a serious touring tool.
It is still a very good looking and apparently in all other respects cracking bike .
They really need to put the motor in a Retro GSA

On all R12s, if you look at the manual or stickers on the bike, they all state that loads allowed are quite low, 5kg per side and tank bag too. Unless Unit Garage does some extra bracing, could be an issue.

I’ve only bought one Unit Garage item and the build quality is exceptional. Having said that, this bike screams Mosko Moto Alpine 30L or Backcountry for the heavy packers 🤔

BMW sell their own racks and soft bags for the R12 so the message isn’t you can’t fit panniers frames and luggage it’s you can , but as with any bike you don’t want to overload them and attach too much weight . I’ll be fitting soft bags and travelling fairly light on your so don’t envisage any issues

Just removed the seat on my R12 G/S and there is a loading label showing maximum weight that can be carried

As I won't be every carrying a pillion I think I'll be fine with my soft bags :-)
