Well, I am back on a GS.
My last being a 1250 Adv.
I sold that as wanted something lighter, dispite its many positives.
Always said if only they could make a lighter one.
So now they have I had to get the R12

Having got used to soft bags again it was on the list to sort. The bmw ones at £549 just seemed over priced to me.
So I bought a pair of Lomo 2 x 13L bags for £62 and thought I'd figure out a way to attach them afterwards.
I'll post results soon.

The other head sratcher is no digital speed with the round clock. I thought no worries it will be on the navigation phone app. Nope!
Obviously a marketing ploy to get you to have the digital display instead. Except I wanted my bike to look retro.

So I have added a gps cycle computer up high for clear sight of exact speed given the growing number of smart cameras about. £16.99 off ebay

Fitted but not yet tested.

Gps speed at a glance, if it works ok.

Back from a test run. The gps speedo works very well, essential addition as can see my exact speed at a glance without looking down. The other reason I added it was to be able to switch between mph and km as most of my miles get done in Europe.
I might stick a bit of black wrap over the branding, or find a bmw sticker the right size.

So, frames for the Lomo bags. I bought some generic jobs off ebay for £12 which I then bent to the shape I wanted using a vice with soft grips and a length of steel tube. Took some force so know they are more than strong enough for the job.
Rubbed them down and repainted afterwards. Fitted with a few spacers using the existing pannier mounting points on the bike.

Then i made some quick release locking back plates and attached the Lomo bags to those. Two sheets of tough abs plastic, some kitchen unit blocks as location points. Two of which are set so can be twisted to lock onto the bar along with a patio door lock. Total cost including bags and hardware about £100. Turned out well, rock solid once mounted. The two side bags are plenty for me for summer touring

With Panniers on. Set at an angle for now to avoid exhaust heat and road dirt. May bend them in at bit more although I like how they sit.
