Sod the bike, that can be fixed/replaces. More importantly, is the rider OK?

An eighteenwheeler v a 12GS! No contest! Good to hear you're ok. :)

Absolutely - The bike has no family unlike the rider. Glad your okay. Just been watching Trauma ER and guess what - a guy with a compound fracture of the lower left leg and foot.

TAke it easy.

AndyT;)

Bikes always lose! Ouch!

What happened? Did he cross the centerline on the corner?

RR, glad to hear you did so well! I sure hope the foot heals up okay. That's some kind of damage to the bike.
I'd like to hear more about what happened, how it was (is being) settled. Did you have insurance, etc.
I am considering a ride to the Devil's Spine, possibly next year. Some local friends just came back from there a couple of weeks ago, with positive reviews, and now I have a real hankering to see Mexico.
Please let us know how you are doing...
:beerjug:

I was going into a right hand curve and the truck was coming the other way about 2-3 feet over the centerline. I was riding between 60-80 km/h, can't remember exactly. He was doing about the same I guess, much too fast for that rig. I pushed the bike down as far as I dared , worrying that I was going to slide under him. Thought I had cleard him when I think he pulled his cab hard into his lane causing the rear end of the trailer to swing toward me. I think hehit the left cylinder, throwing me over the bars and the back end of the bike into the trailer.
My insurance was not valid in Mexico

Glad you're ok, Robin.. That's a damn shame about the bike. In Canada we pay through the nose for bike insurance, in case of a catastrophic claim, such as this one.. then it happens... and ... you're not covered in Mexico. I had dreams of riding to Baja... but i can't afford to eat a GS... I'll have to use my KLR instead...

Btw, a buddy of mine was hit head on on the jug. He believes the BMW Boxer's left cylinder jug saved his leg, and he walked away virutally unscathed.

Does your insurance cover you for personal...?

Glad you hear you are ok.

Was going to replace my bike with a K1200S but I've decided to stick with the jugs and ordered the R1200ST. One day I will have another GS likely the HP version:D

Sorry to hear about your smash, pleased you are going to be mostly OK but the insurance situation is a pisser.
Spent 3 months working in Victoria BC, its a beautiful part of the world to ride a bike.
Get well soon.
