R1200 gs non-starter. Help!

SHE GOES! Many thanks to all who posted, but also to the Haynes Manual that arrived this morning. It was indeed that neutral was not being recognised, hence not on the dash display even though other gears would show. I thought I had tried every possible combination of starting sequences but Haynes section 7-21-1 says “ to start the engine in gear “ (which is what the bike thought was the case) “switch ignition on BEFORE pulling in the clutch lever, otherwise the starting system will not be enabled”.
So, with the side stand still down I did exactly that and BINGO, it started. The neutral indicator showed and all was well. I then switched off, then switched back on so it could run through the preflight check and, with sidestand still down, it fired up again immediately.
I'm not sure if the sidestand up requirement is fact or fiction; on my Sprint, if you start it and then attempt to pull away with it down, the engine will stop.
And as for the Brake Failure warning, whilst a bit dramatic, it is merely the ABS going through its own diagnostic and is extinguished as soon as you move off.
Hope this will help others.
Thanks again everyone.

Glad you're sorted.

The gear position sensor can go a bit AWOL on these and in case it was that not recognising that you were in Neutral it's work giving it a good squirt of WD40 which sorts the issue nine times out of ten (it's a little black thing (technical term) on the back of the gearbox).
