Hey all, i am about to a proud owner of a new R1200 Rallye, however the insurance is over priced because it’s a rallye!
Basically i am getting quotes of £730 as a rallye and £490 if i just but a standard R1200GS, why is this? Just because its has a lick of red paint?
Maybe someone on here knows a why round this or a good insurance group?
Would a claim go through if put it as a standard R1200gs??
I havent got the log book yet but i wonder what other R1200 Rallye owners book says?, is the words rallye mentioned anywhere on there?

Hi

I just insured my new GSA with boxes, sat nav, etc etc, fully comp £260, 9000 miles, and pilion cover.

That was with Swinton Bikes.

Use Go Compare, and Meerkat, then ring the cheapest, and say you can get it cheaper. :D

Always works for me.

Mine was about £40.00 extra but that was including the admin charge as well. Normally about £300.00 pa covering 3 bikes with MCE.

Insurance

Try Carole Nash - £133 with pillion cover, European & UK breakdown cover, full luggage and grips etc as " extras". I was with BMW's own - last year £150 this year on renewal £420 !!!!. No explanation or any attempt to reduce when I rang them to ask why the massive increase. Some quotes on the compare webb sites were as low as £69 but by the time you got pillion & EEC cover ( as fully comp not third party minimum legal requirements) then it climbed to well over £100. CN appeared the best deal but they are not on comparison sites - well not the ones I used.
Mind you I will have to do the same again next year as I bet CN's renewal will be considerably more than this years.

Been with CN for a few years. Paid about £130 last year due for renewal soon so checked on web and quote was about £145. Phoned to add a classic onto policy on renewal and was told the renewal was about £175 (without classic) . Told them it was too much so they agreed the £145 . Renewal arrived in the post this morning £151 . How do they work this out ,strikes me its just best to phone and tell them what your prepared to pay.

Brought mine home today, I transfered my policy of my old GS which only has 6 weeks left to run, they charged me £25, which was an administrative fee. The policy cost £130 last year, I asked what the renewal was going to be with the new bike but they are unable to quote untill 3 weeks before the renewal date, but she did say it shouldn't make a lot of difference.
I suspect your high premium might be something to do with the fact that your address is in London, or your age, or both.

Just bought a brand new GSA and with pillion, accessories plus euro cover and legal cover it was 180 bucks fully comp

Hastings direct

I was with BMW insurance myself (actually run by Devitt for BMW) but quote this year jumped by a lot, no idea why and they wouldn't negotiate so another policy loss for them. Ended up with IAM Surety, of course need to be an IAM member but for anyone who is you will find it hard to beat them even after taking into account the annual membership fee.

James is 'just a mere boy!' and he does live in London so he's expecting to get a hefty loading but his question relates to the fact that there is a considerable price difference between the standard GS and the Rallye. It's only a paint job so why the extra cost?

Doesn't the Rallye have a higher standard spec? Not that that should make a big difference

It might be useful to know who you are asking for quotes?

I was looking at this when I bought my new GS Triple Black last week. The Rallye comes with the premium pack as standard so includes ESA etc.

Can't wait to pickup the new bike on Tuesday. Already got some stuff for modding and don't even have the bike yet :)

I have a Rallye and have been Quoted £365 by Carole Nash for renewal, much more than my previous KTM 950 SMR, which was group 17. Mate has a quote of around £200 for an Anniversary.

Comparison sites quote £170 - £200 with business use. Bye bye Carole.

the quotes for my 800gs 30 years were nearly double a normal f800. sounds to me that insurance companies are jumping on a band wagon and charging ridiculous prices for nothing. the sooner insurance companies are faced with heavier regulation the better. they literally make it up as they go along. when i was phoning around the same companies were giving me different prices within an hour of having previously spoke to them.

I just insured a brand new TB GSA, fully specced, euro cover, pillion, protected NCB, fully comp £113 with Bennetts. To the original poster, I would say are you sure you didn't change any of the information by accident when you were doing the alternative quotes? Not doubting your keyboard skills, but 1. I have done it, and 2. it seems an unusually high jump in cost for no real reason.

As far as 'try this one' or 'try that one', the only thing to do is 'try them all' because as someone else said, it seem to be very arbitrary. My last insurer (Hastings Direct) went from £112 for a fully loaded standard GS to £155 for this one, despite a lower crime post code, an additional riding qualification and a further years NCB. When I called them to see if they wanted to keep my business, I was told 'We don't do price matching'. Bye then.....

By the way, before I get any flak, I only mention it's a Triple Black because the original post was based around model variants.... :hide

I changed from an 09 RT to a GSA TB and was asked for another £140 on top of the recently paid premium. This is with footman james, makes it over £300. Was told it was because of cost and their limit was £15000, a fully loaded GSA with panniers tops that. Maybe will look elsewhere next time. BTW low risk postcode and full NCB.

Hi - Like you I have just taken delivery of a new Rallye. Like others have said the standard spec is up on other bikes in the range but you have to declare this in the value of the bike so it really shouldn't matter. Similarly panniers and the like are extras to be covered. My premium went up. I went from two bikes on one policy (Large Cruiser and 125cc for commute) to the single GS Rallye. Increase of £30 plus admin premium. I am with Aviva and this is the second time I have been:censor: by them so lesson learnt. As another post has mentioned BMW insurance is via Devits who are a quality broker I do not know if they do any favours for BMW owners though? I have had good service with Bikesure but as I have changed vehicles a few times in the last year the new vehicle has not be as competitive with a specific company so I have lost out:mad:
My advice is the same as everyone else’s shop around but for my part try and change bikes when you insurance is due for renewal:thumb
