R1200 RT vs. K1200 GT - need some advice here

Wow, thanks to everyone for all the very informative feedback. The general message I seem to be hearing is that everyone seems to be happy with both of these motorcycles.

I'll try the K1200 GT first. It has more or less the same general shape as the ST1100 I have now (generic sport tourer), and the seat height appears to be quite suitable for me (5' 10", 30 inch inseam). The new two-cylinder sport tourer looks interesting, but appears to have a higher seat height than the K1200 GT does. I'll ask the sale staff if there is anything that can be done about that. I have straddled a few of the boxer twins before, and always found them to be a bit high off the ground for me.

Again, many, many thanks to everyone for the great advice.

Michael,

I am also 5' 10" (on a good day) with 30" leg. I can get both feet flat on floor with seat in high position. Mind you, when I first got the bike, I used the low seat position but soon changed.

If possible, make sure the test ride RT has plenty of miles on it as the engines are very tight when new which makes them feel very inflexible. Don't know whether the same applies to the K series.

Had a great ride on the RT yesterday. It may not have the oomph of the K but it sure is deceptively quick. :)
