R1200 Short Block rebuild - help

Hi guys,
I'm sure that this is probably in the manual I bought from Andy, but I thought I'd be cheeky and ask while I'm waiting for the other system to boot.

The shortblock is ok on the whole, the only problem I've found is the flywheel. The engine only has 5,000 miles on it, but I'm going to replace the various bearing shells though, cos it seems good practice. Looking at the parts list at r1200gs.info, they are showing red and blue shells, any idea how I tell which ones I need?

The only indicator I can find is a red dot on the bottom of each con-rod - so I'm guessing I need red shells... but if thats the case, whats the difference between red and red st.1?

IIRC it's all to do with tolerances.

The crank and rods are ground/machined to very accurate dimensions but will vary within accepted tolerances.

If you get a rod with the max permitted diameter and a crank with the minimum permitted radius then you need a thicker shell to take up the clearance than if you had a min permitted diameter rod and max permitted diameter crank IYSWIM.

The crank/rods are measured at the factory and coded (colour) in order to signify the appropriate shell needed.

John, I've attached what I think is the relevent section form the MWB workshop manual. From that I'm guessing st.1 is "grinding stage 1"

Sorry Andy, that was bad of me I should have said, I got the disk working in the end, just my laptop playing up not an issue with the disk itself.
