My Father in Law recently came into possession of a R1200C,he has been giving the bike the "once over" to make sure everything is just right.

Today he has come across a bit of a problem, the threads in the steering stem are stripped (the threads that are in the frame itself).

Would anyone know how he would go about getting this fixed.

Thanks in advance.

threads

If you are referring to the threads on either side of the shock mount? they can be drilled out and rethreaded to the next size up or you can use an insert and stick to the original size. Either way both are pretty easy to do yourself, with a bit of mech experience.
cheers,
Paddy

contact the nearest BM dealer ASAP with the frame number

There was a recall for this fault

I did a couple of them it was basically a big thread insert is used in the
headstock for the top ball joint and If I remember correctly Hurts have the required kit that was
involved in the campaign

If you don't get satisfaction from Hurts at Mallusk re the warranty aspect then you need to contact BMW
directly at customer services, Be Nice and Be pleaseant but firm and don't threaten
Just ring up and ask what to do now? The Girls get threats of legal stuff everyday

Since it's warranty any European dealer can do it, so perhaps one of the establishments down south as I believe Hurts are having Staffing issues in the workshops and are backlogged?

Pokie has very kindly offered us a link his technical article on this topic. He was comfortable fixing this on his own bike.
click for Pokie's tale

Please remember that a recall is a "must fix" item, no matter what your bike's warranty status or if you aren't the original purchaser; the BMW dealer must fix it at no cost to you, if your bike hasn't been fixed.

Thats fantastic news!

Thanks very much for the info it is really appreciated,I had absolute faith in this forum :thumb2

When I find out what BMW are going to do about this I will let you know.
