Yes I'm an idiot, I don't need telling.

During the course of servicing my bike today I managed to put the filler plug back into the drain hole by mistake, they are the same diameter but a differant pitch, bad practice I know.

The consequnce of which is that the drain plug will not tighten up in the drain hole.

I've removed the final drive & I'll take it into our machine shop tomorrow but I don't think a helicoil can be fitted due to the sealing medium being an O-Ring and not a crush washer, the very reason I made the mistake in the first place.
So - has anyone come across this before and come up with a solution?

Not made the mistake but Id use a wurth time sert to repair the threads.

The filler is M12x1.5 the drain is M12x1

I cant say for deffo, as you didnt say what bike , year or month of manufacture

if you provide those we may be onto a winner

can you not whack some PTFE tape round the drain to see if that will work?

If you could skip dive around the back of your local motorrad dealers workshop you could probably find half a dozen perfectly good FD still with rusty driveshafts attached, a quick whack with a hammer and some plus gas and jobs a good’un.

To draw a line under this.
Luckily the threads are fine when a tap is run down them.

Drive casting blown out and some oil put in a swilled around before draining.
