Ok. I have measured the drain plug and am I correct in that it is M12x1.0 ( fine thread)
The drain plug was exceptionally tight as is the filler plug, the result is the threads are damaged and I need a tap to clean the threads. The filler has not been removed yet, still under penetrating oil and heat treatment. I am very suspicious as to how this has happened.
Of course this has come about because I just had to have a look at the drive spines. top one very clean but no grease from new and the bottom spline tight with corrosion and peeling paint under rubber boot. 15k on clock.
