R1200GS 05, 06 & 07 MY differences/changes....

The 04 (and 05 I think) had WP suspension. The 06 has Showas (hence the different knob)

To best of my knowledge none ever had WP's (in this neck of the woods anyway) ... twas rumoured the new 1200ADV would have WP's but alas no.

The knob change as far as I know was just a fitting detail thing, change on Showa production line.

Both my 1200 's have had WP labled shocks.

whoever it says made them, i wouldn't dream of comparing them to Showa or WP's retail stuff.

And the exhaust vave thingy disappeared at some point IIRC, when the black (it is metal) end went to silver.

(resulting in a 10HP performance loss)

I've been out for my test ride :thumb2

Whatever was I worried about with the servo assisted brakes?! They seemed to be totally different to the ones I had tried on the 1150's.....

I only managed to ride 80 miles, the weather has been shocking this afternoon. I did however manage to ride motoways, A & B roads, even a quick blast over the Cat & Fiddle :)

I loved it, I'd like one now..... In fact, I wish I had one yesterday ;)

The only thing I wished for were my Ohlins on it!

Welcome to the 'enlightened ones' :D

The worry is I'll like the bike, but, not be able to get a non servo model second hand...... I've not tried it yet and I'm talking as though I'm buying one!;)

Well dont worry about it. People say that the servo bikes have no brakes at all if the servo goes down - thats absolute tosh. I tried riding mine with the servo disabled, and whilst the brakes required all the fingers rather than just one, they still did a respectable job of stopping the bike. And my servo never gave a moments problem.

On a second hand the things to watch out for are:
1/ peeling paint (wheels and the front of the engine in partic)
2/ wobbly rear wheel when on stand
3/ oil stain at junction between the engine and the gearbox.
4/ any sign that some ex sportsbike id**t has thrashed it.

No doubt someone will be along to point out the issues that I have missed.

Never had a moments problem with mine and neither do most folk. You'll like the bike on a test ride!"

that's what i thought.

wilbers ordered last week ;)

You will have to let me know what you think with them fitted.

The salesman didn't like it when I gave the bike back and told him that it was what it was lacking!!!!!

Greetings from Manila!

just traded in my '05 for a spanking new'07. manila LOVES the r1200gs. bikers here dream of owning and keeping one. got 8,000 kms out of the '05. i'm convinced the new ABS II on the '07 will work well here in the Philippines. This country is biking HEAVEN. I'll let you know how the new '07 rides after this weekend when i do my first ride to Lake Caliraya. This May, our ride group intends to do some island hopping to the fabulous island paradise called Boracay, where my business partner, Patrick Higgs, (who happens to be a Brit and who rides a R1150GS) runs a great restaurant called Paradiso Grill. If any of you happen to be going to this part of the world, let me know.:)

Just got back from Manila on Thursday. I wouldn't want to ride a bike in the city  Jeepnies every where, absolute mayhem but only a few accidents and no real road rage. I can see how having ABS would be usefull though.

"I've got an 04 model one of the first off the production line, and it's never given me any problems." Yes, I am in the same situation. I have the servo and the ABS - they can be switched off but I cannot imagine why - except for off road use which I do NOT do! The servo takes about two minutes to realise that it is there and to get used to it. When I had a test ride over two years ago I just thought the brakes were rather better than normal & did not realise that there was a servo.(The first bikes with servos, the 1150R I think, were rather brutal but it was made more gentle for the 1200GS.) I live in a very hilly area and plenty of twisty roads so the brakes are used gently but a lot and the servo is VERY MUCH appreciated;

Technoflex

Also look at Technoflex suspension.................. much more adjustable and well worth considering. Superior to all the rest in my opinion and well worth the extra cost:rob

since i've just weighed out the GNP of dorset for a set of wilbers, i have to ask: what more adjustment could they have? ride height?

there seem to be some similarities between the 2 makes (both blue :D ), any connection?
