R1200GS 2010 pictures

Glad to see BMW are evolving the model and not simply changing the model like japanese makes do. This will help keep residuals high for previous models. A little bit like a 911, why change something that is proven to be top of the game.

Are you on drugs???

I wonder whether the free pannier offer will now finish, it must have hurt Metal Mule and other luggage manufacturers.

Can't have hurt metal mules .. they are so much more expensive than everything else that those who want it will have the cash to buy it. They also get a bit towards them by selling the free BMW ones.

It's the TT ones that I think will suffer more. same manufacturer etc. Not much point in changing.

although only the smart people have the singer sewing machines boxes :thumb

The report concludes, "The DOHC design is the same as found in BMW’s HP2 Sport model, and in the GS application the motor has been tailored for touring and enduro duties. Pretty much everything else remains the same, which means BMW joins the ranks of other motorcycle manufacturers who have held back on updating their 2010 line because of the economy."

I'll do the same and will hold back on updating my 2008 bike...

If I was to trade in for a new model next year I'd have gone for the 'smoke grey' one....but to be honest I'm a bit disappointed in it!

Not sure about the silver side panels....I'd either have them sprayed to match the bike, or swap them for black ones.

.....but what strikes me most is just how unchanged it is!

It is just really a new engine in the old bike......sort of makes you think there might be a full make-over in 2011?? :nenau

Just received the World of BMW newsletter which includes the following info :

New engine features:

1,170cc, 4 valve, double overhead camshaft (DOHC) boxer twin engine
Maximum power is 81kW (110hp) at 7,750rpm (up 5hp for GS and Adventure)
Increase in torque from 115Nm to 120Nm (88 lb-ft) at 6,000rpm
Maximum engine speed is increased by 500rpm to 8,500rpm
Significantly improved torque, traction and acceleration
Even more spontaneous and direct throttle response
Stronger, smoother torque curve
Electronically controlled exhaust flap for superior and powerful sound
Compliant to EURO 4 emission regulations

R 1200 GS and Adventure new features:

Newly designed cylinder head covers
Improved windshield adjustment
New colours
New and revised special accessories, including additional LED headlamps, Akrapovic sports silencer and carbon heat shield

Will be interesting to see what 'Significantly improved torque, traction and acceleration' and 'Stronger, smoother torque curve' translates to in practice.

Amusingly the statement on the World of BMW website says that one of the new features of the GS is:

"Improved windshield adjustment "

I then checked the original release PDF and found out that what this means in practice is:

"the windshield now comes with larger hand-bolts with even better grip for adjusting its position with greater ease"

Talk about how to put spin on a very basic change :blast

I don't own the OEM screen anymore on my GSA. But I do remember the adjustment was kind of finicky. I'm glad BMW pays attention to this kind of real life functional details. I think it was worth doing / mentioning.

what do they mean by 'additional LED headlamps' :nenau - similar idea to those running lights on the newer Audis/ Porsches ?

This one is interesting as it shows a cross brace on a GS
publicq

As none of the other pictures do either this is a GSA that they misnamed for the picture, or there is an option of a cross brace
