R1200GS 2010 Vibration

I live in South Africa and purchased a new 2010 Adventure in April. Perhaps you have covered this subject before but I am interested to find out what is the UK experience regarding the following issue:

All boxers are prone to vibration and I accept that, my problem is that every now and then I have a sudden increase in vibration (heavy), so much so that the bike's acceleration is drastically reduced.

Have anybody had this experience with the 2010 motor?

I have a 2010 and have not experienced this. I assume that you're not trying to accelerate from way too high a gear. That's the only way I could mimic what you describe.

I have a 2010 twin cam GSA - from new very smooth no excessive vibration but around 3,000 miles onwards I noticed some additional vibes but hard to explain what they were, but enough to be annoying and to spoil my enjoyment of my 4th GSA.

Anyway bike had it's 6k service about 2 weeks ago and also had a recall to change a camshaft sensor. Bike is now super smooth again so I can only think it may have been valve adjustment, throttle balancing and the cam sensor which may have been the source of the vibes.

All is now well and I'm a happy Tosser again.

Although I am being tempted by the new K1600 !

If the vibration is intermittant and as bad as you describe it suggests there's a non-mechanical fault. If the acceleration is affected (assuming you're not shutting down because you have to) then it points to either a coil failing or maybe even fuel related. I'd get it plugged in to check for fault codes then go from there

I have been suffering from severe vibration on my 2010 GSA. It's been to the dealer who can't find anything wrong but who agrees that there is vibration.

It's an odd one really as it seems to be more prevalent when the engine is hot.

I have spoken to BMW who tell me they have had a few reports recently of vibration on 2010 bikes, strangely all GSA's. I'm now waiting for BMW to come and test ride the bike to try and find the cause.

From your picture it's seems that you are quite tall, so you might not notice but I want to ask you anyway.

But first is your vibration constant or variable, meaning is it always heavy or does it change to normal/low sometimes?

Does your ride height change without changing the ESA setting?

On my GSA I always chose one rider + comfort to have the lowest possible seat height. Every now and then the ride height change to maximum (tip of toe stuff normally half foot).

My question is, if I have a faulty wiring harness, could it not be possible that it could have an influence on the vibration of the bike at the same time?

The bike is scheduled for a technical inspection this week but as I have intermittent vibration problems not sure if it will help.

Monty, if the bike is adjusting the suspension without input from you anything electrical could be equally affected including the engine management etc.

Sounds like a wiring or computer issue.

I'm pretty sure it's not a suspension issue. I noticed the vibration early on into ownership and a tendency for weaving which I initially put down to suspension or tyres. I then had Wilbers ESA fitted which cured the weaving issue but not the vibration. I then changed the tyres but am still suffering with the vibration.
