Whilst in a dealer today looking at the GSA, I noticed that the newer GSs had a modification done to secure the cable out of harms way of the capiler and disc. It looked like a "P" clip secured by a single screw to the outside of the lower strut by the caliper mouting bolts.

Will all our bikes be due for a recall?

My May 2005 1200RT is having this safety recall done on 7th April. Dealer has the parts in already.

I was in past my local dealer last week and in speaking with the bike mechanic he did mention that they were moddifying this due to a few folk wrongly routing the cable when getting tyres changed and the wire rubbing on the front disc. He didn't mention a recall just that new bikes would have it sorted.

I had my fisrt 600 mile service on March 17 and was told the bike was subject two recalls ( the word "safety" was pointed out as NOT being used ..) .
The first was for the routing of the ABS cable, the second for one ofthe banjo bolts, somewhere in the brake system - apparently under very severe conditions it is possible for the ABS to allow the wheel to lock up.
Unfortunately the recall notice was "so recent" that the parts were not yet available, so I cannot say what has ben changed. There is, however, a new cable tie clamping the ABS cable to the brake line where it exits the caliper...

Yep, had a 6000mile service the other week - was advised of a recall to ABS re. fitent of clip @ calliper . They didn't have any clips left so going back this Saturday to have it sorted - it's a ten minute job to sort. Funny thou as there's no way the wire to the ABS sensor can get caught - ho hum safety first an all that thou I suppose.

Picked the bike up yesterday after having another final drive fitted. Noticed today they had also fitted the revised ABS cable clip - they didn't even mention it to me :nenau

Had mine done in April at same time as annual/6K service they also did the banjo bolt and the ECU software update that switches off the power to the accesary socket. I think they will do all the bikes as they go through the network without giving a proper recall.

Hi Dave,

12 thou service last week, did ABS clip mod/recall.

Quote Service Manager "Its to stop the cable catching on the front trye if not re-fitted correctly after new front tyre etc, by a layman" think they mean us!!! :rob

Recall in France

I had a registered letter from the dealer about 6 weeks ago advising me to come in for this modification - which I did shortly afterwards. (1200GS 2004)

Having read about the banjo bolt mod and the brake clip, previously on this forum, I mentioned it to my dealer when I was in getting a new set of tyres.

He checked his computer system and said that I should have received a letter asking me to pop in and get the mods done. I hadn't received a letter.

Got the mods done anyway when the tyres were fitted.

PS BMW Australia issued a recall notice re the above, which covered the following R1200GS VIN munbers:-

ZL 25000 to ZL 29999
ZN 25000 to ZN 44999
ZR 20000 to ZR 38716
