Does anyone know exactly what is the difference between the standard and the Enduro gearbox on the 2008 R1200GS Adventure. I can't get a straight answer from a dealer. are gears 2 to 6 the same in both. What is the difference percentage wise between the 1st gears? Anyone got one? does it give to much of a step from 1st to 2nd?

I have the Enduro box, if anything first is still too tall, I find it hard to imagine having a higher first gear. Personally, I do not notice any significant "step" between first and second; when the 08 models were launched I think a lot of dealers took whatever stock they could get to make sales. The Enduro 'box option had to be specially ordered so they tended to guide buyers not to go for it. I gave up trying to find one on demo and took a punt when I ordered mine. Glad I did :thumb

There's a long thread on this topic (round about October?) when the new GSA came out.....Search will find it....

interesting I didn't spec it but would be interested to comparfe the two

reduction

Dealer told me it was a 10 percent ratio reduction, for 1st all others same ratio.

Got the Enduro option on mine. It is just the first gear thats lower, the rest are the same. Probably could do with being a wee bit lower again, but happy enough with it anyway.

I have the shorter first gear, and I find that mine could do with an even lower first gear and a taller sixth gear.
I occasionally miss the smooth low-end torque of my R-1100GS, that saved a bit of clutching. On the other hand, the five gear box on my 1100 offered about the same ratio in 5th gear as my 1200 in 6th gear, so I haven't really felt the improvement of the new gear box. Cruising at 4-5000 RPM seems suboptimal to me, but I guess the solution is to stay at the back roads. :)
