Nooooo!
Very emotive subject around here. I've the AF-XIED units and am happy with them. Easily fitted and can be sold on, unlike a remap.
Cost about the same but no need to go anywhere.
I believe that 'oldandfat' is the only one who has had both so would have the most accurate feedback. The rest are Hilltop fanatics.

Thanks for that.
I have spoken with Jeff at Hilltop.
I've also used Xied Leads on Harleys in the past but they only adjusted the AFR, they weren't programmable.
They were much less expensive than a full Dyno and Remap tho.

Well now.....it is very difficult to compare both bikes unless back to back...but having had two TCs....one with a remap and on with the AF XIED option I struggle to notice a difference between the two. The remap is instant whereas the AF unit has taken about 800 miles to bed in. My bike pulls much better and is smoother and easier to control goin on throttle....much less feathering the clutch for low speed.

So either does the job of maximising the motors potential....the thing about the AF units for me is that it is less of a faff than a 400 mile round trip to Hilltop and I can sell them OR transfer to a WC if I ever have a "moment" and feel I want one...so should be much cheaper in the long run. Having said that....had two bikes remapped by Hilltop and would thoroughly recommend if that's the way you want to go....but the AF units WILL do the job....and better than a Power Commander which I have also tried.

As I said, either way it is a much better bike for a similar outlay.

Thanks very much for that O n F, I appreciate your taking the time to comment......:thumby:

Is BeemerBoneyard the only place to buy the AF-XIED or can they be had over here please??

I think beemerboneyard and nighthawk. Both in the states. I priced it yesterday and with the poor dollar rate it was £276 plus postage of £30. That's before customs put their bit on if pulled. Someone on here got stung for £72. So worst case scenario is £370 ish. Same price as a Hilltop remap.

If you decide to order, it might be more cost effective to bring both in together then?

I've decided on a hilltop. Just waiting to get bike serviced and decatted before I whip it down to him.

The reason I've gone this route is I'm not going to sell my bike. My last bike a 2002 YZF R1 I had for 12 years. Only changed to a GS because I wrote it off a few weeks ago in Northern Spain. Been all over Europe on the R1 doing 40,000 miles. All we ever saw was GS's everywhere we went. So I thought I need to try one. Managed to grab a bargain bike off here. Took a while to convert me but now I love it. Just blinging it up day by day. That for sale section is bad for spending money.

I have a Power Commander 5. It certainly brings out the bike's true performance but it has to be put onto a rolling road and it runs open loop.. To be blunt, it's the quick dirty option.

The AF-XIED corrects the fuel mixture but retains the original ECU map.

A proper remap does more than sort out the fuelling so my vote goes for the Hilltop option. The bike will need a top service - valves, throttle balance and the usual service items. The ECU is adaptable but its likely to be better to arrive with your chosen pipes and air filter before getting it dyno'd.

When I spoke to Jeff at Hilltop he recommended arriving with a Stock Bike and swapping Pipes etc post Re-Map.
Apparently he uses a "Floating Map" that adapts to suit whatever you choose to fit?
