Hi all just wondered if anyone could recomend an exhaust i have always fitted aftermarket to get some noise but find the GS a bit on the quiet side.:aidan

I'm running Remus Headers wiyh an Akro box. Plenty noisy enough.......g/f likes the OE box fitted for long trips....the drone gets to her:rolleyes:

+1, though perhaps too noisy without the baffle.

If it's noise you want, you can save a bit of dosh and just get a remus/akrapovic end can, but if you want any sort of performance gains you'll be wanting the headers as well.

I just have the Akrapovic end can with the baffles removed .. Sounds lovely and pops and bangs like a goodun

I've heard without the CAT its louder still .. When I have saved up for the headers I may well put the baffles back in the end can if its to loud.

It's people like you lot that get the rest of us blah blah blah blah blah....:augie

Prefer the stealth mode myself. :rob

... Akra can, baffle in, giving a nice gentle burble :thumb

... Motad Y-piece, a bit crap TBH I will replace it with a Remus soonish.

... Massive weight saving over stock, no appreciable power boost but crisper throttle response and pick-up all round
... Changing out the cat makes a greater performance difference than changing the end-can

Laser Duotone on mine, Stainless pipes, titanium can. Nice tone but not too loud with road baffle in. Louder with other baffle in, especially at high revs/wide throttle opening, without being offensive at normal speeds through toens and villages.

Only bought it because original was damaged, but love it now.

I've got a Scorpion can on my GS, and wonder if I have lost a bit of low down torque. A pal was taking hairpins in 3rd gear, where I was having to use 2nd. Admittedly my bike was heavier with luggage, but it did make me think that the lack of back-pressure was destroying the lowdown torque/power.

Al;)

Actually something worth adding... If you can find one on the cheap, a full staintune system is a great option. They're expensive new but they pop up on ebay every now and then. I had one on my 1150r, according to a few tests on the R1150r forums it gave the best performance gains (for that bike), and it sounded brilliant, not too loud, just raw.

Many thanks for the response it looks like i,ll be going for REMUS headers and akro end can . So gotta start savin a bit more.:aidan

Has anyone tried a Beowolf can? If so what do you make of them? Helluva price difference and they seem well-made - saw one on a Bandit 1200 recently and it sounded great. Made oop North in Halifax I believe.:rob

Headers only?

If you use the Remus headers with a standard can does it make it (1200) sound much better?

At the moment ive got the full akrapovic system front to back, baffle out and no cat - very loud, lots of overrun popping etc but as ive posted in another thread, im thinking that its causing my bike to run strange.

Cant put on too much throttle as it will stutter and momentarily cut out.

replacement y pipe (Pipecraft in my case) - good mod, nice sound and a crisper resonse, might buy Remus next time though. Then an Akro can with the baffle in - looks good but not sure I'd bother again.

I've done some searching around and found that most people like either Remus or Akrapovic. I would like to change my stcok exhaust too for one of those but find the prices at the moment a bit too expensive for my wallet! May have to wait till the NEC this year and see what I can pick up there, else there's always ebay... God forbid...

I think it does - listen to this - spoiled a bit by microphone crackling. It's not mine by the way, just something I found in the process of research. :)

Cheers for that Nick. Listened to that one and the one with the full Remus. Have to say that the headers only seemed to sound a bit better than the full system. The sound I would really like is how my old 1100S used to sound like with a full Lazer system. More like a Lancaster bomber. Sounded great. :)

akrapovic end can

just bought akrapovic end can from BMW dealer, the one they have supplied with BMW stamp, fitted very well and sounds pretty good to,,,, fits to bike with carbon fibre strap, which is good tight fit but after a few runs when the heat builds up in the end can,you can see the marks on the can where the strap seems to be moving about i think the carbon fibre must be expanding with the heat, just wondering how bad the cans going to look after a few thousnd miles,,, anyone noticed this or have any thoughts on the matter:confused:
