Anybody read the bike comic today? Ped Baker (or is that Prat Baker) went on a BMW off road course without any engine bars fitted to his GS. Some other hair brain lost it totaly while trying to be the big I am and dropped it. Yep engine a mess and bike written off.

What do they do? Give him another GS!!!!

Well MCN have now just lost another subscriber.

I haven't bought 'The Comic' for a couple of months. It really is a load of old rubbish. I did read this weeks copy as it was left laying around at my usual bike cafe. The article on the GS was typical of the junk journalism that frequents a large majority of the biking press, most if not all published by 'emap'

As I'm parting with my hard earned for a new 1200 in May, I was glad to read:

"...after six months of ownership I can safely say it was the best bike I've ever had. Trackdays, holidays and dirt mashing, it's done them all easily" :D

You couldn't say the same about the 300bhp, V8 4-litre custom BMW bike on page 14 - I guess dentists have to spend all that dosh somehow... :beerjug:

Is it me or since thier so called overhaul this publication seems to have got worse. They seem to be getting more like a cheap tabliod. I want to read about bikes NOT babes!!! I can do that in Mens Lifestyle magazines if I want to.

Hmmm. Not strictly true. I had a chance to see the damaged bike, whilst in Bath Road MCs workshop. Once cleaned up the damage wasn't too bad considering.

So it seems the 1200 is quite "tough", it will definitely be back on the road.

But for a real tough cookie you should see the Adventure they have in the workshop. Cartwheeled during a high speed off in Algiers. Gaffer taped together and ridden back.

Yes, it was the long-awaited write up of the BMW off-road course that I was on.

I couldn't believe the words on the page. There are so many descrepancies compared to what had actually happened.

For example - said Journo "ran to the wreckage concerned for the rider". Pants. I was first to it whilst Mr Baker stood, mouth agape, thinking about the trouble he'd be in having leant his bike to someone who'd just totalled it.

He "hit the kill switch to put it out of its misery" (or something like that). Nonsense - it was already dead before I got there and long before he did.

"oil pulsing from a gashed artery" or whatever - it was dribbling a bit but that's all.

Although he had a number of falls during the course (as did most people, except me :D ), his 1200 was pretty unmarked until the wheelie incident. And I have to say that even if he had engine bars, the violence of the somersaulting wheelie backflip would have smashed the valve covers anyway and demolished any crash bars. In fact I'm amazed that the bike wasn't more wrecked - the plastics were pretty much undamaged - tank & fairing bits included.

And the buggers spelt my name wrong on the picture credits - tossers.
