I saw this question posted on ADV, and it intrigued me. Does anyone know whether this would be possible? I realise there'd be more involved than just swapping units, but would it be theoretically possible, with whatever mods might be needed?

I looked at that and thought it was pretty awesome but... it costs over a grand and it's too big so you'd need to make a new mount instrument cluster and screen.

If you're over on ADV look at Ebarek's LED projector headlight project - all the light (though admittedly not all the cool) at a fraction of the cost and effort.

And if you go for the upgrade do post up - my burnt headlight reflector is pushing more towards some sort of solution other than a new reflector that will probably just burn again.

One of the reasons for considering this is the fact that, at my most recent MOT, the current headlight is burnt and will probably need replacing at some point in the future; if I'm going to have to do it anyway, why not go for a cooler option! I'm probably going to go to my local BMW place this week to discuss options; I'll keep you posted.

My first thought was that this probably heralded a spate of headlamp thefts from WC/LC bikes

It won't fix a burnt headlight but some led spots might sole a poor performance issue

Burnt headlight? Another design fault by BMW?

Led spots can be awesome on full beam, mine offer daylight levels of light and good for a happy 80mph nighttime twisty road ride, great spread of light, but not quite the distance of a good hid set up (but a brighter light output).

None of this will help with a shit low beam though:blast

Thankfully the 1150 actually has a good low beam when HiD is installed.

Most led spots will be too bright for low beam and don't have enough cut off to not blind the feck out of everyone. Hella do make a set of micro de style headlights with uk euro style cut off pattern for kit cars which if HiD'd might improve your low beam set up?
