Just doing a final few checks on an R1200GS I'm picking up next Tuesday but looking at the pictures I noticed that the exhaust heat shield is missing.
The missing part I believe is stainless steel and is slotted. It serves no purpose other than to stop boots melting on the silencer inlet pipe and also looks better. Anything looks better than a weathered exhaust pipe anyway!
Should my bike have this part attached? It's one of the first R1200s as it was first registered in December 04 (54 plate) and the exhaust can has a black tip on it rather than a stainless one as on later models.
I think I can get one from motorworks which is near me and a second hand one will cost £18. That's if they have one in stock but can't find a new one on there.
