S10 or GS W/C - both great bikes, both capable of doing pretty much what ever you want.

GS - will be quicker but again from your OP this is not a factor

Ignore the negativity about the GS's on here - they are not that bad and most niggles will have been sorted out on the 2015 models in any event.

By the sounds of it you keep bikes a very long time so depreciation is not a factor

S10 will be cheaper to buy new/nearly new so in your circumstances will be better value for money.

Take a long test ride on a S10 and if you like it nearly as much or more than a GS go and buy one

it will all be down to the ride factor, i love my gs and that will be the bench mark of what to buy next, so far on price alone i have got to say the yamaha is ahead by almost £4000 which is a lot of bits and a nice long riding holiday later in the year.

I do not appreciate the styling on the chopped of nose section on the Yamaha, it looks incomplete. When you want to compare two bikes you should ride them back to back, within an hour of each other to allow yourself a better chance to compare / judge.

Will not change my WC GS for the Yamaha.

For those who have nothing good to say about the WC GS, why are you still riding one? Sell it and go sulk it in your own little corner.

For me, it all comes down to the test ride. I'm not going to spend $15k to $19k on a bike if it doesn't wow me on the test ride. Life is too short to ride a bike you don't love. It has to be more than a reliable appliance.

Yankeedoodledando's comment nails it from my point of view. I just love riding my 2013 WC. It has been fantastic and Wollaston BMW have sorted out the niggles that I have had so far in very timely fashion. As snaponphil says there are plenty of BMW dealers around if you really needed them.

It's a head or heart thing I guess.

Been waiting for dealer to sort out collecting mine since late december, mine has a list of faults and is just not up to scratch, Back in UK on Monday and arranging for it to be taken up to the dealer in a van, if every fault is not sorted to my satisfaction it is not being kept.
It will be the last bmw in my garage (I will be getting rid of my 2011 gsa as well) and bmw will not get another penny out of me I am so sick of the new bike.
If you are lucky enough to get a good one then great for you but it is soul destroying when a £16,500 bike turns out to be so problematical.
So far:
1. esa not working correctly
2. gearbox and clutch very poor in lower gears
3. both sets of switchgear playing up
4. seats have gone baggy
5. paint on frame is chipped from plastic frame bungs

All on a bike with less than 1000 miles , so unpleasant to ride I went back to using my tc

Well, after 15 years or so on GSs I am close to cracking after 6 moths of WC GSA ownership. I was in the Yam dealers in Saturday after my bikes 4th unscheduled visit to the dealers and some 5 weeks off the road. Build quality is not a patch on the S10 ....and for that matter, previous BMs.

The WC is a great bike...if you have one that works properly...mine doesn't....although I have to say the dealer has been excellent....and to be fare so has BMW in trying to sort the issues. My problems may be a one off but I have now lost confidence in the bike being able to carry me and my wife to Split in May without incident.

So had a go on the 2015 S10 with electronic suspension...and you know what....it wasn't half bad. Not as good as the GSA but it did have the compelling feature of actually working. There was a punter there on his S10 which had 45k on the clock in 3 years. No dodgy switchgear...all the paint was still attached no lurch as the thing went into first and the suspension worked...well. All quite compelling sales features in my book....should be in the brochure.

Depending on the outcome with BMW I could well be in the market.

It doesn't' matter a bloody jot if there's a BMW dealer around every street corner, when the damn thing let's you down in the middle of nowhere your still totally buggered.
