Could anyone tell me if a 1200gs rally is worth more than a standard bike like for like with extras? Is there a priemum for these on the second hand market? Are they a collectors item? JJH
BMW has just released details of the new R1200GS Rallye for 2012. The model joins the rest of the best-selling GS range and follows the success of the R1200GS Triple Black from earlier this year.
No price has been set for the UK as yet. Expect BMW dealers to have this special R1200GS Rallye in stock for January 2012.
Changes from the R1200GS to form the Rallye are mostly cosmetic and include as standard:
• Alpine white colour scheme with graphics in BMW Motorrad Motorsport colours
• Black engine with matching black fork slider tubes
• Red frame
• Black and white covered seat
• Enduro ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment)
• Chromed exhaust system
• Wire-spoked wheels
• Heated grips
• Onboard computer
It was a bit like the vfr800 anniversary ! Some like it and some not due to its mixed colours but I tend to think any special edition models will hold there value better, it does seem the triple black in the twin cam is the no1 contender tho.

If you believe it will eventually appreciate like an old Meriden Triumph Bonny Jubilee, then go for the higher price. Otherwise it's just another GS that will go out of fashion.
Think it was originally a bit more expensive compared to the basic GS as it came with a few extra cost items bundled. Probably not much dirrerence if you compared a fully loaded normal GS to an equivalently loaded rally. I rode one and it was nice to ride but colour scheme is a bit marmite like.
