r1200gs rear seat box

Dot bother. That key looks painful.

Pillion seat are about £50 on eBay. You wont need the padding so a rough seat should be even less. Then choose a suitable Pelli case and it's good to go.

Alternatively buy the locating kit from BM dealer (c £20 IIRC) and fit to Peli case.
Got a 2nd hand one recently from Eblag (altho' it was yellow!)
Thread on here somewhere on how to do it.

There is a plate available which allows you to fit a vario top box in place of the pillion seat

I bought the kit from Motorrad Germany at the start of this year.
The passenger seat can be replaced in less than a minute. The original box platform would take longer to replace, though.
The box clips on and off the kit in the normal way. If you don't normally carry a passenger, is a really good mod.
Makes the box a lot easier to see into if you aren't six foot or more!

I now have acquired a small Peli case to go where the rear seat was, just found this:

Is this the correct part to lock onto the seat catch?

Also will I need a plate for this to fit to? If so could some kind soul post a link please?

You need a plate with lugs on the bottom that look like the seat base mounting lugs.

Google "r1200gs pillion seat plate" will show all sorts from simple to silly money.

Not if he uses the BM adapter kit that he posted a link to, surely? That provides the lugs etc - then the pelicase could be bolted directly to that. Or a flat plate bolted directly to the adapter kit and the pelicase bolted to the plate.

It's hard to tell but the plate has only three lugs. Two are foot shaped at the back and one is a peg that drops into the lock. like this -
