Just a quick question: what's the usable fuel tank volume on a 2010 R1200GS?

The fuel warning light seems very pessimistic to me, and I've never managed to get more than 17 litres in even though the computer tells me I'm about to run dry.

Thanks for any info!

I'm presuming your on a standard? I ran my gs adv dry after 430 miles lol :blast
but the lads I know who have the normal gs get around 200 miles to a tank

Yes, standard bike.

Just thought I'd ask before putting a fuel can in the top box, running the bike dry and finding out for sure...

It's a 20l tank. On my 2005 model, I can run it almost dry. I have put 19.5 litres in before now.

I have done the "Fuel filler neck" mod though...

Same here, managed to squeeze in just under 20l on one occasion. Normally get 225 before reserve comes on, fill up at 250.

Might have been a dodgy pump, but had 22 and a bit in Spain after 299.9 miles.

:D

Blimey, I'm normally getting 180 to a tank with 200 occasionally doable if I'm in super duper bimble mode :-O

I'm guessing you mean this:

There's no rubber ring visible in my tank, and you can happily fill all the way to the top of the red plastic insert if desired.

The warning light tends to come on at about 180 miles, and I rarely push past 200. Sounds like I could be a bit less conservative. Bike gets used daily for a 35 mile M way commute at reasonable ish speeds, and consumption works out at 54mpg or so, brim to brim.

yesterday i got a bit dry!

Hi, i found myself down to '33 miles' of fuel yesterday, luckily i found a garage and filled up to the bottom of red filler tube, with the bike on the center stand, this amount was 16.07l which i would expect to do 170 miles.

tank size

Have took a litre can with me and ran the bike dry , put in the litre and rode a couple of mile to garage then got 21 litre in .ran out at 270 miles and i think fuel consumtion was about 57.
I have removed plastic tank thingy and filled up as far as pos.
standard GS.

Cheers Ian

23.16 litres

Ran out pulling into the garage. This is a 2004 model with the fuel neck drilled and rubber removed.

I regulaly fill up with 22 litres. My weekly commute is 200.4 - 200.6 miles and depending on traffic and the temperature it will take anything between 19.8 and 22 litres.

If you are only getting 17 litres in then you are missing 1/4 of your tank :P

2004 gs
normally the warning light blinks after 160 miles and at 190 miles i manage to squeeze 19 to 19,5 liters in ...... :type

Fuel Tank

Last week: 140 until warning light, 180 to count down at 0 with no bars on the fuel guage. Filled up with 18.2 litres which averages 46/gal or 10/litre. I will try runing to true empty on a run soon. No adaptation to the tank. Riding is average i.e. 4-5k revs before changing gear.

Same here. Arrived at het gasstation yesterday with no bars left and a range of 5 km. Filled up with 17,8 liters.
