R1200GS won't run over 25% throttle opening.

I had a slightly similar issue when i removed my accelerator module prior to a remap.

Their was no fault showing up on the dealers machine and they tried and swapped everything they could. I did some research went back to the dealers and told them to check the IAT ( intake air temp ) sensor. Turned out the readings were all over the place.

Replaced under warranty, sweet now.:thumb

Unlikely to be much myself, especially with BMW's, my best advice would be buy a Super Tenere, however....

Have you checked compression, sounds unlikely even to me if the fault developed quickly, but maybe worth checking.

The Air Intake sensor is an odd one, I would have thought that would just bugger the fuelling a little and affect the whole rev range - but not to the degree described.

I prefered Carbs, could fix them myself - and for next to no cost.
 
So, what was the outcome?

Interesting bike here that probably bypasses all of the above type of problems.
 
Have heard of similiar issues caused by stick coils, runs fine at low revs but under higher load, they stop functioning correctly and lead to flooding in the concerned cylinder due to uburnt fuel. When you swapped coils about did you run it underload?
 
Disconnect the secondary coils and disconnect each main coil in turn. A good coil disconnected should make it run really rough. If there's not much difference its likely to be a bad coil.

I can't quite remember, but seem to remember swapping stick coild and a FPC at different times around then.

I did contact Steve at Motoscott and described the problems and agreed to tow it down to him. Arrived, unloaded the bike and after hanging around for half an hour he came outside, listened to me trying to start it for about 30 seconds then told me I'd have to leave it there and he'd book it in and work on it - not what we'd agreed! I towed it back and sorted it out myself.

Bike now has 110k miles on it and has just broken a driveshaft, but is running well so worth fixing.

Have been toying with the idea of carbs for a while. If it dies again I'll look into it.
