Hi,
Wonder if anyone out there can help me with my problem!!! I bought a late '07 R1200 GSA in September, whilst out on a ride my mate noticed that the back wheel was buckled. This was passed onto my local BMW dealer Oct/Nov '07 who have told me that the problem will be recitified, they have had the bike in twice and have put on two replacement wheels but both of these were worse than the original. They keep telling me they will sort it out and not to worry as the bike is safe to ride. I have had no reason as to why this problem is taking so long to get sorted out. I am contemplating rejecting the vehicle as being unfit for purpose and trying to get a refund or replacement, does anyone know where I stand on this and has anyone come across this problem before???

Seen similar on one other GSA1200, and appears to be a common problem. It isn't so much that the wheel is buckled, but that either the hub or drive unit flange is not true. On that one - you could see the hub wobbling as well.

I doubt if you noticed it handling differently, just that it was visually "out", so don't think it is necessarily "not fit for purpose".

Thanks, love the bike-so don't really wanna go down that route, just want it sorted but BMW seem to be taking there time

Buckled wheel

A mate had one of the first 1200GSA,s he had trouble with a buckled front wheel. the dealer replaced it & he had no more trouble. now he has changed his spoked wheels for the ordinery 1200GS wheels because they are easier to clean.:clap:mcgun.

think Blackal probably pinpointed the problem, did think about trying to swop for GS wheels but prefer the spokes.

1st-Don't change your spokes for GS wheels...ffs it's a GSA for a reason!

2nd- If the rear is showing signs of being out of true, be it hub/drive or whatever then that is not good. It will at a time of when you need things to be just right may make you have a spill when cranked over.

3rd-Tyre wear will be excessive and uneven.

4th-It doesn't matter if you haven't noticed it handling differently, you will when either the warranty runs out or you are on the floor.... You are right though it is not fit for purpose...get them to sort it and take no bull. Tyres and wheels are designed to run true hence that is why we balance them...
