Been looking at a White "dark" 1200R in Coopers in Boldon with just short of 4k miles. It's been in a while, and was wondering what they were like for a good days ride. I know the GS is excellent, but fancy something a bit different, and I can get both my feet flat down on it.
Thanks

I like them, had one before, wish I'd kept it. You can get a 'touring screen'

Superb bikes. I did a full day on my Classic the other day ,great fun.
200-220 tank range.
I have the touring screen fitted and it's fine. I think the Givi adjustable screen might be better.
Leg room is ok,I am 6ft. Any taller and I think you might need to lower the foot pegs.

R1200r

Hi just sold one for a 700 gs toured Ireland this year on the r1200 and it was very good but as I am short in the leg sadly had to let it go.
But a good bike to ride.

I have a Dark White R1200R and I like it. I've had it for a year but only ridden 2000 miles so I can't qualify as a tourer! I'd say, as others have done, that it would be fine to tour on. I don't think fast and lengthy blasts down a motorway are it's forte but for A roads and nipping around I love it. I've had a 12GSA and a 12 and also an F800R and I'd say that's the ranking order for touring capability. I had each of the GSs for over 3 years and so I feel able to comment on their comfort for touring. The R1200R is much better than the 800 for distance comfort. I fitted a Wunderlich Vario Ergo screen to mine but I haven't really used the bike enough to comment on overall wind protection/comfort. I suspect, like the Givi screen mentioned by someone else, there will be a benefit over the BMW screen. I'm going to sell the Wunderlich one ( was £200, yours for £80 haha!) as I'm not using the bike enough and I'll revert to the "touring" screen for nipping around in the Summertime. Get that bike bought!

Cheers Rustle.
Had a test ride on the new R1200R today, nice bike, but too pricey for me. The dark they had in sold just after Id looked at it.

I had mine (twin cam) through Europe twice last year. Fantastic bikes but missed having ABS, especially firing down through the hairpins. Probably would have kept it otherwise. The engine/gearbox was sweet as anything and the finish perfect. So easy to live with.

Get an ABS model and you wont look back :thumby:

Very good surprised how quick it is as I have swapped from a r1200r. Finding it tough to find a touring screen though as I have hand guards on. jonny

I've a BMW touring screen (with all fittings) for an R1200R in the garage somewhere if anyone is after one. PM me if you are. Great bike which I should never have sold. Hindsight ....
