Hi, does anyone know the actual width of the bmw r1250 engine, I'm considering buying a gs, but need to know if it will fit down my Alley, I know the handlebars can be replaced with slightly narrower ones, but don't know the engine width. Thanks.

Hi did you find out the width , I have the same issue
If your bars fit then the engine will as they are the widest part - just like cats whiskers.
950mm

Reviving this thread, because I’m trying to find out more about the width dimensions of the 1250 GSA
I have the same issue as the folks above - a narrow opening that need to be negotiated,

Can it really be only 800 without crash bars, as written above? I’m surprised it’s not wider!!
And also, is there anybody who would care to measure the width of the tank of a 1250 GSA without the crash bars?

(At some point I’ll have wider space, but thinking I can remove the crash bars for a spell:-)

Thanks!!

Just measured my handlebars, including the handguards it's 1 meter width, this is the widest point the engine with bars is narrower.

I have a narrow garage built on the side of my house. So these are dimensions from mine.

If you’re pushing it from the side then you can get through a doorway of about 1.15m with a bit of a squeeze. The handlebars are wider than the engine.
If you’re pushing it through a door way and then putting in its main stand then I’d recommend something like 1.5m between the walls as you can then put it on the side stand before you go for the main and you won’t hit the bars in the wall when it’s leant over

If you’re riding it through then it’s the handlebar clearance of 1m

Just measured my RS and came up with approx 780mm (no guards or covers).

Thank you! :-)

I'm positively surprised! My neighbour who used the space before me has an early 2000's GS and had a problem getting in.
But 78cm would slip in without a problem! (The door is 88cm.)

So, a 1250 GSA should fit, too (without crash bars), as far as I can tell, the tank is not wider than the engine?
Obviously some angling to get the handle bars through, though...
