I am buying a used R1250GS Adventure. Not collected yet.

I would like to refit a BMW Satnav cradle. Currently in the topbox. The dealer has told me that the satnav plug is already in use for a pair Delali D7’s. Plus a Denali horn and rear light. It also has 2 x ezCAN modules.

I there another option so that I have a working Satnav plus the D7 Denali lights?

Hi Nick

Which Satnav are you looking to equip exactly? The on the 1250 bikes, we use the RDC connector plug, which shouldn't be relevant to a Satnav connection, and if you're adding the BMW Cradle, that connects to the GPS holder above the dash, which connects at the front of the bike, not the rear.

Kind regards

It’s the BMW Nav 6 cradle.
I asked the dealer to reinstall the satnav. But they tell me that they can’t connect as the socket at the front of the bike is already in use with the previously fitted Denali D7 Pro lights. Plus 2 x exCAN modules. Denali Soundbomb and rear light.

That doesnt make sense.

Why would you use 2 ezCan and then need to use the sat nav socket. I am not even sure it would be powerful enough.

Agreed. Doesn't make sense that the Denali's are being run from the Sat Nav power supply when you have EzCan's installed. The EzCan's should be connected to the battery and switched via their can bus connections so should be powering the Denali's, sound bombs etc.

Thanks.
Probably best I just wait till the bike arrives.
I don’t want to loose the satnav. Or the Denali spots, horn and rear light.

So when the bike turns up. I will disconnect the wiring. Then Connect the Satnav and go from there.

In the meantime look at some YouTube clips.

My guess is that the front GPS socket is being used as an accessory trigger for a relay possibly for the soundbomb perhaps.

If there’s already two ezcans installed, I’d tell the dealer to go ahead and unplug whatever is plugged into the gps socket and install the gps as requested then sort the other stuff out when you get the bike.

Thankfully the dealer has sorted the wiring before they delivered the bike.
Everything is now working.

Next job. As I have just registered my new GS911 tool and updated it.

Change Startup Menu.
Install Sport Screen.
Reconfigure Rear Light.
Reconfigure Indicators so they are clearer.

Not sure if I can do front & back. Or just the back. Still reading up on it.

For coding with the GS 911, you will either need to have the bike battery on charge, or the engine running to maintain at least 12.5 volts. If you have the standard front indicators as amber running lights, that function can be turned off, but not changed to white light. There are a number of options for the rears, including light intensity. Always make a note of standard settings.

Thanks Victor.
I intend to have a go real soon.

Glad I researched it.
I found one guy on YouTube (theblackcountrybiker) lost the option of a BMW extended warranty by changing his indicators to £500 set by Weiser.
Plus. The modules from (A bike thing) I thought I needed to turn on the rear light. Are possibly not required, as it can be programmed with a GS911.

Was just about to program this morning with the GS911.
Charger connected to socket and turned on.

Turned on ignition. Checked bike battery voltage.
It went from 12.5 volts to 11.9 volts within about 30 seconds.

Not enough to change any settings.

Work in progress. Might try it with the engine running !?

@Nick Marshall, I found the same when I first got my GS 911. I found the Noco 5 amp battery charger will cope really well with the power consumption of the bike not running, and as it is an intelligent charger, it is less likely to spike the bikes system. I tend to switch the charger on once the bike has been powered up.
My BMW smart charger plus, which is rated at 2.5 amps output, will also maintain the battery to around 12.8 volts if I turn off the bikes oem spot lights and shine a decent light on the tft to force the headlight off.
You can also do it with the bike running, but i find this a pain in the arse.

Thanks. Thats very helpful.
Just been to Halfords and purchased a Noco 5 amp charger.

So. Tomorrow is going to be the big day. Fingers crossed.
