I,m hoping to tour across Europe in August assuming the lockdown has been removed by then. In the meantime I’m trying to get everything ready in anticipation. My last GS was a 2010 which would go through at least 1/2 ltr of oil on trip. I was told that was normal as it was oil cooled:nenau:nenau. I do ride like I have just stolen the bike and robbed a bank to boot. My question is now that I have a 1250 water cooled will I still need to take some oil with me on trip. Space is a premium as I don, t like to take panniers so don,t wish to take any if not needed. Expecting to cover between 3 & 4K miles.

No

They don’t burn oil (at least the 1200s don’t)

Oil is available for purchase in Europe should you need it

Thanks, I know oil is available although last year I struggled to get the right grade. As it was only a top up I guess any oil would be ok but prefer not to be in same situation. Plus as I’m going with a tour, last year my warning light came on and ended up having to ride for at least 50 miles before we stopped and was able to pick some up.

If trip is very long think about tyres, if weather is very hot.

Yes looking to purchase the Pilot Road 5 Trials before I go. I have battlax on at the moment but don’t like the feel of them. They don’t feel as grippy when pushing hard plus the noise from the front is deafening.

If pushing hard is ok going but coming home must be more careful if doing more than 5000kms
