My RS was ordered at the end of June and was due in the UK the week commencing 21st August. After contact with my dealer this week and them chasing BMW UK it appears all RS' that have been built since the factory returned from their August holiday are being held back. BMW UK are attempting to get more information on this but I was wondering if anyone who's in the same situation has heard why and when we can expect them to be released. Anyone thinking of ordering one might find this information useful!

Linked to this maybe?
Thanks, sort of follows the usual scenario of the Yanks getting looked after more than the rest of us (RT suspension and Hayes brakes issues come to mind) I bet it's some dodgy parts they've bought off Ali Express for far less to save them a bit of money "That'll teach them all a lesson" ..... oh wait, where's my bike..

Speaking with someone whose wife works for Motorrad, they weren't entirely sure but the stop order, added to an apparent increase in take up of the RS sale numbers has made them a little more scarce on the ground new. When I was after a late low miles one a few months back, I contacted Cotswold to enquire about a 1 year old 22 plate one they had showing and it went the same day it came on. They told me that they get fewer of those in than the ubiquitous GS/GSAs but that lead times for new models shouldn't be any different.

Three months is more like the standard waiting time for a factory order. My guess is they have less demand than usual at the moment.
Haven't the foggiest why RS bikes should be held back?
If you're looking you could still buy my old one ;)

Latest news is there is no new news. I spoke to my dealer today (Cotswold Motorrad) who to be fair to them are doing all they can and the information coming back from BMW UK is that the factory are working hard to solve the problem (but won't say what it is) effecting RS' with a delivery date between weeks 28 and 35 but mine (which was due in week 34) is still showing as being held up in quality control, so I'm still non the wiser what the problem is, when it'll be solved and when I can expect my new bike, which as it's a week 34er will obviously be towards the back of the queue. Marvelous.......

Plenty of low miles used bikes about....nicely run in and many with all the extras and farkles which would take new prices North of £17K for probably 5K cheaper on the used example?

Well, my RS has finally escaped the factory at stalag 14 and in now hiding at the docks across the chanel looking for a boat to stow away on to get to Blighty. Steve Guest at Cotswold has been excellent, I think he's as exasperated as I am with the lack of info from the mothership. So looks like a early December delivery, only 3 months late

Nice one Ade. There must be hope for me yet :D

I gather the problem in the US was with the effectiveness of the EVAP canisters, with BMW blaming the supplier.

Apparently the issue was resolved in October, but I guess it could have held back production for the UK market.

I don't think so Squib as IIRC all bikes were put on hold in the USA, where as (according to BMW UK via my dealer) this was just the RSs built in August. My bike was actually built to schedule on time, but was held back at Quality control and BMW have only recently solved the (secret) problem. It'll arrive just in time to be put in it's vac-sac

Ah, but.... would it be an SE in the luverly sports colours

They're about! Mine's an SE in white/two tone, so came with belly pan as well as that lovely paint scheme including red frame. The handy thing about used is flush original buyers often kindly farkle up the bike from new. Mine had loads of extras from frame bungs, R&G crash protection, MachineArt cylinder head guards, touring screen, panniers, mudsling, crudcatcher and a few other nice to haves. It was absolutely showroom mint and not run in and over £5K under new price. There's plenty of year old bikes about. Our Local dealer had a fair few in not so long back
