R1300 GS vs. R1250 GS comparison

Especially if you’re Stick!

No one has ever come past me on the 1250. I would be surprised if he could on his 1300. ;)
Easy , the 1300 would , in my hands , smoke your asssss ( only a reply to your poke xx) If you ride Wales , I will have done that...I wear out tyres that fast these days I have shares in Conti.. Oh shit and brakes as well , must be a newbie :D :DPlease dont say you get 3 k out of a set .. Tyres that is.. Like the Avitar are you holding up that old beemer

I feel not . I ride with a chap on the MT 10 , he is fast young and a track day rider , but .... its a one trick pony again as is the XR . He struggles against the all day riding we do on technical roads , fast on the big A roads ( ZZZZZ) but bouncing like a crack whore on a £10 tip . He admits it , its not about the power , the figures , just about the bike on real roads , real time.
He is 33 , me 59 , he still can keep up even with all that power , . Now get him on the A40 ..............................................................................................................................BUXZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Wtf has that got to do with character ?
Your young mate is probably very happy riding around on his MT10 , enjoying the joyous soundtrack .
He may not give one shit about keeping up with “ Look at me at 59 and fast as fuck “.

We’re all different .

I was simply commenting on the stupid statement above that “ it’s a 4 cylinder means it’s boring “.

If every corner had shellgrip (as they do in Wales) then most of us would wear out tyres as you do 😁 But as we know, shell grip is cheating 😉, and real balls and skill comes at places like the Ring on imperfect surfaces or on roads with traffic 😉
Back to the 1300 - it’s a great bike I’m sure, but not quite enough to get me out of my 🐝 1250.

No , he loves it , learning how to put that bike to good use rather than sounding good . He has come a long way over the last year . Yep as you say I’m fast as fuck , but he still loves to chase 😂😂 may be 59 , but sharing experience. He’s faster now in the right way rather than an acoustic teenager . I know we’re different , but you bit 😄😄😄😄😄

I not sure where you ride in Wales most of my riding had zero shell grip , B roads only for me , broken surface , gravel .
Ever done the Clun / Kerry roads , Dolfor Kington to name a few . No A roads for me .You need to wake up ….
Oh your on a 1250 😂😂😂😂 I ride from Bewdley most Sundays / Saturday or mid week if the weathers not pissing diwn , come out for a proper ride , I will be gentle 😜 Pm me I have some great routes 250 to 400 miles , only back roads mind 👍

You do make some sweeping statements!!

All 4 cylinder bikes lack character do they ?

Something like an MT10 with the cross plane engine has character by the bucket load .
there may be the odd exception like the MT10. Few and far between, and twins and triples are more inherently characterful by design.

Wales is nice, great roads, just bring the sunshine eh?

Sunny tomorrow, fancy a ride out , not sure where you are , but always willing for a good blast . Saturday is the new Sunday 👍
Tempted, but currently in sunny Portugal. Wales? Portugal? Hmmm… Let me think about it for a nanosecond…:LOL:

But speaking of which, maybe a good UKGSer blast’n’brew is in order this summer… then we can all compare chicken strips and cupped tyre edges 😜

Cant wait , but do not know what you mean by chicken strips , I use all my tyres , and its not even hot yet , ride safe you lucky bugger in the sunny area , I will have to do with gravel , pot holes ....
Mind that quarts roads , does wear your tyres lol...Oh I dont drink Tea , thats for girls.

did 100 miles on the 1300GS this week - the new engine is properly quick, serious grunt everywhere and now far closer to the KTMs (twist the grip and something happens) - the old 1200 and 1250 LCs are gutless utter mopeds

engine noise is weird, gearbox seems good, but did find fake neutral twice between 4th and 5th
front end set up way too nervous - absolutely no need for it, twitchier than a 16" rim on an 80s sports bike on bad tyres,
30mph dry roundabouts and it feels like its going to let go (it did twice)
bike feels tiny, like a 250
screen is a joke - terrible down, even worse up
first seat in BMW history that was comfortable !!
cluster menus a utter mess of confusion
morons have destroyed cruise control - wouldn't set below 20mph... (had set it to dynamic setup - for cruise in menus from hell) my BM will do in first from 4mph
clearly heavily restricted in 1st won't lift under any provocation, but 2nd and 3rd pulls hard, somehow managed to confuse the anti-wheelie on a heavily nadgery bit of use on off the throttle hard, snapped it open and it forgot and gave huge air... my KTM would do this randomly too - its a fault, clearly bosch haven't done their home work very well

overall good effort...

Botus have you got a peaked adventure lid?

The 1300 screen is great on the motorway for me i had to put an screen extra lip on my 1200GS to improve but don't need on this, quite a few comment the wind protection is good.

no normal shoei lid - I can't believe the noise people put up with believing its "normal". I'm 6' 3" and 100kg

I have three bikes on the road..

orig 1200GS came with small screen - one of the worst ever designed - swapped to the extra tall ztecnik v stream and its amazing - so good, for last 10 years I thought that was normal

got a k1300GT with BM high screen - terrible - fitted extra tall ztenik screen - terrible, sold bike got a k1600 GTL with BM tall screen - terrible - so modified K13 v stream for the K16 (it starts of 6" higher) and went through 4 iterations before makes a screen almost worth having (now only about 1" taller than the std GTL one, but with v stream shape)

had a 1200GSA LC screen was shocking (got rid of the bike), recently got a 1200GSA TC, screen was worse than the appalling mess I thought it was... after getting back on my orig GS all other screens should be banned on motorcycles

Maybe it allows them to do more with future models. :D
Think you’ve actually tripped over the real
Motorrad agenda here. It has wider pistons and a shorter stroke and will naturally be more revy- so they’ll be able to easily extract more power down the line with future models. Think the new engine is the baseline for development. Providing it doesn’t spit springs and washers - I think they’ll bolt on more power in later models,
Conversely, the 1250 has reached the end of its development. This actually makes it more attractive to me. The last edition of most bikes is the best………in my opinion.
Finally, who the fuck actually needs adaptive suspension that lowers the bike when you stop etc. I go through a 30 second ritual every morning when I get in my car turning all this shit off!!
Each to their own 🤔

How about someone who has severe osteoarthritis in both knees and would have to move to a smaller/lighter bike if manufacturers such as Triumph and BMW hadn’t invented such a lowering aid.
Or just someone who is under 6 foot and takes a pillion and now has added confidence when they stop.

But good that you are above such shite.

Lot of ppl have conveyor belts running up their staircases too, but doesn’t mean I’d buy a house with it fitted standard?! 🤣
Besides, I thought you hated the 13??!!
Think you just like a Friday night scrap!! 😬

Well, now that you come to mention it. 20 years and 5 GS later, I dropped mine, for the first time ever on the road, turning into the MOT station last year.

I've always been on my tip-toes as it is and my legs aren't getting any stronger.

Alright, fair enough………..but I’d still like the choice when buying a new bike whether it had or not………or paying for it 🤔
