I'd like to start this and let it mature over the coming months years etc.

I have the Performance model and the screen is ok i think. You 100% need to wear earplugs, but in the high position wind isnt too bad. But recently i tucked down behind the screen more and found a silent turbulence free haven only a few inches lower! Now i know what it could be like.

I see options like WRS, Powerbronze. But also BMW list a Touring screen and also the Triple Black and 719 bikes appear to come with a different screen. Is that the touring? Or are there 3 BMW screens.

I don't want to ruin the aesthetics on the bike as i think it looks amazing. But after my little surprise find I'd like more protection. I quite often ride from my home to Jerez for MotoGP and WSBK which is around 2.5 hours away. And in the past having poor wind protection takes my soul and can pull the life from me before i have arrived and start the day.

Is it possible as time goes on we can add photos of screens fitted to the bike. maybe post a phot with the old screen taped on top for reference as we can see size difference etc. I'd struggling to justify nearly €300 for the BMW touring screen if a €150 screen is as good or better.

Powerbronze for me. Low setting for normal riding, high when it's really cold and wet! Doesn't look as neat when up but I don't care ;) They have a number of different sizes/shapes available but Puig will have theirs ready shortly too

This is an ongoing saga for the 1250RS on FB pages. I have 3 screens in different sizes. The short one from Puig in the lowest setting is the best for me. Wind in the chest clear airflow to the helmet.
The standard BMW one is miserable in any position.
The Puig Touring I use in cold months, very good but ugly as fuck. People also fit some adjustable small screen, some rave about it. It didn’t make any difference to me.
I tried the 1300RS and the screen is as rubbish as before, the tall screen looks the same size as the standard screen on the 1250RS.
I use moulded ear buds. How tall you are it’s also a factor.
One reason I shall stick to my 1250 is because ergonomics are now spot on. I also changed the seat and lowered the pegs. The taller seat also brought me closer to the handle bar and the screen. Also found the touring screen gave less air flow to the helmet. In hot weather it was a pain.
I shall follow your progress.

Running a R1250RS. The screens change out very easy so none of this is permanent ... I put the puig touring+ on right after I bought it and have never taken it off. In the high position It has very good coverage for what your working with. Better than my GS with a GSA screen and deflectors imo. But when it is in the down position it lets in a fair amount air from under the front. Kind of like it tilts back and then air gets in from under the front pretty well and so I never even switched it back out, even for summer, even though that was the plan originally. after looking at some pics of my bike stock I can say that the stock 1250 screen is far bigger than the stock 1300 screen, according to the pic above, which may be a sport screen or something like that.
Looks, well that is relevant. And after a short time you won't notice it too much. Hech I have all the luggage for it anyway so looks are not a huge priority. Still better than a 100 lbs more RT imo. couldn't post a pic ...

Good info. This is what I wanted.

I'm 179cm. So around 5ft 9 in UK sizes.
I did look at those little clip on spoiler things but I think it will sit right in the line of sight.

I rode home in the dark tonight and the dark screen just blocked the view of the area right at the front wheel.

Tomorrow I'll do the commute with it on low. I always use earplugs anyway. Will see if it makes any difference to wind on the helmet area.

It cant be far away. That's why I thought triple black screen may work. As I only tucked in a few inches and it went calm and quiet.

I'll keep looking for the Puig options.

A little clarity here, As I said, I have the puig touring plus in smoke on the 1250. I'm 5'10" with a 30 inch inseam. I do sit fairly high in a seat, such as I look thru the very top of my mid-size pickups windshield. And on the RS I still look over the + screen, not thru it, so the smoke color doesn't matter much, it does look better though imo. In a strong cross wind is where you really see how good your wind protection is, and I think it is fairly good with my set up.
I never liked those clip on contraptions, they really look bad imo, and it seems like they might eventually tax the mounts for the wind screen. I would like to have some hand guards on it though. I have already had a small rock hit my hand. Not bad with the gloves but a real possibility...
Hope this helps you make a decent choice .... ride safe ....

Thanks. I do appreciate the advice but the 1250 ergonomics are different to the 1300. Also fairings. I cant really use the 1250 screen info on the 1300.

I did the commute today with the screen on low and it was better. More wind noise even with plugs in. But better. Set the cruise at 170kph and played with pulling the screen up and down. It felt like in high it just added turbulence but removed a bit of noise.

So from this crude experiment it seems if its going to work it has to be higher And work when pulled to high position. And with that hopefully low doesnt just turn into a mess of turbulence.

There are a few screens avaliable. But it will be good to see, over time, sizes and experiences. The WRS and the APB looks like they may work. But I'd like to see the BMW Touring screen and also the Triple Black or 719 screens. To compare.

I used an MRA x flow screen on my 1200RS, slightly different ergos admittedly, but after trying three different ones, the MRA was the best compromise for me. It reduced turbulence considerably over the standard one. I'm about the same height as the OP hence it may be worth a look at these. I found going taller (as with the Wunderlich Marathon screen) made things worse, not better.

:D At that speed no screen on the market (or invented) will reduce noise or turbulence. The only bike I had that could do that sort of speed without any drama was my 1200RT... Even with the summer screen. I also use fitted in ear protectors.

Yeah i did notice that. I still have some issues relating kph to mph as a reference. The speedo number always show 100-something so it kinda desensitises the brain.

I have a C400 GT scooter as a courtesy bike today. Actually even with its large screen the wind protection isn't any better than the RS. It's quieter, i didn't need earplugs. But there is far more buffeting.

It's starting to warm up here again so maybe once the wind blast is warmer it will be less of an issue.
With all the info so far it seems i could spend decent moye and just move the problem about rather than fixing it

I wish I had my Sport screen last summer, had the touring screen was a bit warm...38C in Hungary

That looks great!

I think Puig also come with some data to show the difference in airflow and pressure areas.

Looking forward to this one

Both look good. I think the Puig had the edge slightly. I like the feature on the website where you can slide the line to see the bike before and after. Although it doesnt show it in the high position.

I emailed them enquiring on availability date but no response.

Good Morning
Probably a late response, but I emailed 'Puig' and they have new Screens in development and they have informed me by email that they will be available for sale in the beginning of April the 7th. and with the flip extension was the 7th May. I thought that they look alright, see listed.

Regards
Dave

Hi, that date is much better. As above. I emailed España and they gave me a date of July. The screens are made in Madrid so I'd imagine Spain should have them at the earliest date.

But April is much better. I'll keep watching the website
