R1300GSA Sidestand

I fitted the one supplied by Miguel, a very well made product. It has changed the lean angle form 17.75 degrees to 14.5 degrees. What a difference it makes, much more manageable, and now very similar to the lean angle of my old R1250GSA.
It did take a while to come though, just under 5 weeks, but Easter did get in the way!
I was going to go for the larger Evotech one, but they were out of stock until a few days ago.

It is truly shocking , how far the 1300GSA leans . At first , I convinced myself that it’s a feature of the new fancy suspension height thing … but it isn’t .
It makes this bike feel horrendously heavy .
At least it’s easily sorted

Who cares, it does the job. Plus, it's barely noticeable once fitted.

I know why didn't BMW fit a sidestand that's fit for purpose in the first place ? I'm only a shortie but have never had an issue with my 3 previous GS's

The early 1200s used to lean over a fair bit too, it got better when the water cooled version was introduced, these didn't lean over quite as far.

Excuse my ignorance but where will I source my current side stand part number ?

Thanks in advance

I have been looking into this.

It appears that the one from Portugal is €79.50. Plus it would take him 20 days to make and send. So… with post. Expect a wait of up to 30 days.
Looking at the pictures of the side stand extender there is nothing that clever about it. Is the centre section 3d printed?

I guess you could buy one of the Ali express Side stand extenders. Then find someone to 3d print the centre section.
Should cost less than £20 each.

Alternatively.
What also might work is fit a Hockey Puck to the base of the side stand extender and reshape with a power file. If you can’t get it milled.

I wonder if the guy in the sidestand design department , still has his job ?

Hi, has anyone changed their sidestand on the adaptive height model from the fitted sidestand to the standard bike sidestand. Supposed to reduce the bike lean angle. Just wondered what difference it made. Also does anyone know the torque settings for the sidestand bolt and the smaller bolt that holds the sidestand switch.
RE Himmie 450 sidestand too short; Watch this interview.
This bike is 1/3 the price of a 1300GS .They admit the issue, explain how it happened, and that they are going to fix it..Sort of the customer is always right attitude; other companies think not.
Makes me wonder who I should be giving my money to.

Hope the link works!

Gosh; maybe I shouldn't have posted that.
BMW are always right - I am the only one out of step and in the wrong.
Disregard that post.

Gosh took me a while to fight my way through all of that ….
But starting at 21:48 , he says that there’s a lot of tooling needed to produce the sidestand , and they produced the sidestand before all of the suspension was finished .
I then understand that result is no sag and a sidestand that’s too short Sounds like another cck up ? Like the GSA1300 sidestand ?

I bought an ali express extender and shaped an aluminium block tapped it and used longer bolts .

Good product - it sorted out the problem for me
Yes. But.
It’s €79.50 posted!

Look to me like an Ali Express £5 Side stand enlarger on the top. with a 3D printed block to give it some space.
Screws on the Portugal item look budget as well.

Does anyone here own a 3D printer and willing to make and sell the inserts?

I have four of these on order.
