R1300GSA Sidestand

Progress Report.

4 side stand extenders arrived today from China.

Put one together with two extra spacers from two of the others.
This looked ok. However, the bottom of the extender touches the Centre stand.

Two options.

1/ Either grind down the back edge of the extender with my power file. (Preferred) Then repaint.

2/ Or replace the screw in M8 rubber side stand stop with something like a M8 bolt. That should then stop the stands from touching. But might be a bit noisy going over a bump. I don’t think it’s going to touch down too early.

Screws are too long at present. Easily fixed if I get the power file out.

With Miguel's 'Bigfoot' he supplies a bolt that goes into the side-stand which, when the stand is up comes into contact with the original rubber stop (so no noise). The bolt is long enough to stop the side-stand foot coming into contact with the centre stand. (See the second picture in post 11.)

exactly!

Guy on Etsy selling one for £28.63. Don’t investigate too deeply as have ordered the expensive one. Maybe worth a look?

I've seen this one before, I think it's a guy in Canada making and selling them. I think it is just the insert he's selling. It's made for the Touratech side-stand extender, so I think you still have to buy the Touratech item and longer screws.

Ah. That explains the Touratech top in the picture

Thought about that.
It’s an M8 thread on the side stand. So I have ordered these nylon M8 screws from eBay.
Should do the trick. The M8 thread is about 15mm deep. So I am guessing a 20mm nylon M8 screw will do the job.

Anyone here with access to a 3D printer?
We must be able to sort something ourselves.

Another update.
Black nylon M8 screws arrive. So fitted one into my side stand.
I built one large side stand from 4 using 4 spacers.

This gives a raised height of approximately 20mm below the side stand base.
The club foot clears the centre stand.

Last picture shows what’s left over from the 4.

Total cost was £25.

Morning gents(and gentesses).
Fancy and quite expensive altrider item arrived Friday from America. This is it at full extension lying next to my factory sidestand which has the “bigfoot” from the lad in Portugal fitted. Quite obviously if the bigfoot was removed the altrider and factory sidestand are identical. The altrider item is at its maximum (adjustable) length and my 2025 GSA does not have the electronic lowering suspension. I fitted the altrider to be sure this morning and when fitted the bike is back to listing like a ship in a force nine. While this is unfortunate as I was genuinely looking forward to an improvement I will say the altrider is vey well made, only let down by the supplied adjustment lock nuts being of very poor quality that would likely as not see the torq fitting round of if used much. Don’t know if I’ll sent altrider unit back as posting to USA might be a bit steep.

That’s rather disappointing.
I would definitely send it back. It’s very expensive.

Did you receive the correct item?
What is the part number?

I see your BMW factory side stand has a different number to mine.
Mine is the Adjustable Suspension Comfort version. M meaning lower.

The number on my side stand is 4653 163861

Mine’s not got the fancy dropping suspension. If it had I think the altrider would have been better as the suspension dropping would actually tilt the bike more upright. It is a shame as other than iffy bolts it’s a very nice item.

Yes; Disappointing - I was hoping it would work.
Slightly off
topic:-
I have sat on the Adaptive Ride Height Comfort GSA, and it felt fine. The ordinary Adaptive Ride Height I could not cope with.
I could not get a ride on the comfort one as there was no demo bike, so here are a few Qs.
How do you find the bike with the comfort one rides and handles?
Does it have less suspension travel (same as the GS), but give a harsher ride due to the heavier GSA?

Thanks

Do you know what version of Altrider side stand that you have?

What would be helpful.

If you can measure from the centre of the bolt hole to the base of your fully extended Altrider side stand.
As well as your standard BMW stand.

I can do the same with my BMW side stand from my comfort version R1300GSA.
This info will also help others.

I absolutely love the bike.
My previous bike was a factory low R1250GSA.

This bike rides very well. I like the soft bouncy castle type of ride in road mode.
It’s also easier to handle and ride than my previous bike.

I have not ridden any other R1300GSA or GS.
Didn’t test ride this bike. Just took the gamble and purchased it.

I have just received a Bigfoot from Miguel in Portugal and it does mark a huge difference on my 1300GSA.

Total time from payment to delivery was less than 2 weeks.

Nick, cheers for your input.
Some snaps of altrider. This is set to maximum length and,as per earlier picture, is identical in length to factory stand which is back on the bike so doesn’t lend it self to easy photography and measurement. I’d say from last photo the fully extended altrider measures 15 3/4 inches/40cm from tip to bolt centre give or take a tiny bit but definitely same length as original minus the Bigfoot.
If anyone wants to try this on their bike I live 1 mile from the end of the M56 near Chester. Garage and tools available. If liked buy it and leave it fitted. Any questions send a message or ring on 07900-494001.
Cheers
Derek

Brilliant. Thanks Derek.

Measured my BMW Stand a similar way without removing from the bike.

35cm. So I think your Altrider stand would be perfect on my lower ‘Comfort’ version.
However, so would a factory stand from the standard bike.

So, from the above. I would think that the difference in side stand lengths would be about 5 cm.
