R1300RS Performance with panniers.

Do you have any photos of your bike. It sounds interesting. Well set up. I'd like to see it.

What I don't understated why the shaft needs changing at 50000 miles to the cost of £1000 on the 1300(all models). I asked about this. My R45 had 90000 miles(when sold) and didn't need a new shaft...

Ah, I dont have any social media so those are not an option.
That might explain why forms are quiet compared to what I was used to 10 years ago when I used them last.

Yes. I see your point with changing.
Its all perspective and option. I rented an R1250RS for a week last year. And although there are similarities for me I found the new bike is substantially different. Chassis feel, engine, slightly better tech. Maybe it also depends on models. The black 1250 maybe is closer to the new Triple Black or 719. For sure the performance feels different but in a good way.

What i mean by my post was. All the reviews state its too hard and too focused. But the bike is adjustable. It like getting in a car after someone else has been driving and saying the seating position is poor. Change it!
The pegs are adjustable. Suspension has a large range of adjustment. -3 is drastically different to +3.

These guys who get sent on launches. Do zero reading into how to operate the bike. Jump on. Don't know what the buttons do. Don't tweak anything. I mean. One guy will be 20 stone. The other 12 stone. This is why it is adjustable. Then they say. Its too focused. Too hard. Too whatever. And it leads to bad press. Because the bike is aimed at 40+ riders who still want performance but also comfort and ability to cover large distances but still have performance and fun in the hills.

Also they at most times are sub average riders. Poodle about in Road.
A test needs to be a test. Get in in town. Test rain mode. Take it to some fast roads. Test Dynamic then play with settings on Pro
For example. I felt the bike was flat at times. But it was due to TC. Reducing that made a substantial difference and the bike came alive. Without that change I'd probably review it as underwhelming at times.
I've also wondered about the reviews of the 1250 as well. Doesn't seem like they really checked out the bike out and had their minds already made up. Maybe even didn't ride the bike at all.
With the 1250 I found that tires do make the bike for sure. Some of the bikes did come from the factory with terrible tires really. The front tire is annoyingly small and wears out really fast. When the shop made a recommendation for the new tire set I went with it. With a stronger set of tires, especially up front it transforms the bike imo .... What a difference, especially as I tend to be a late brake-er, former racer ... And I do keep the pannier set on with the top box. Which tends to make the bike look more like a touring machine from certain angles. The cops love the bike, and I had them pull out and follow me just to check it out I guess, no pull over or ticket. When the cops here use BMW's they tend to get white RTs.
I do like the gear whine on the 1300, it's just like the old airheads. The 1300 definitely has more top end, with the bore and stroke change. One can watch mototop on the tube for that info. My opinion is they gave up a tiny bit of low end at the lowest rpms and gained quite a bit of top end. and with the shorter stroke you get more room to lean over they say. But over all both versions are splendidly fast by my standards. I've never even touched the traction controls. I run it in dynamic pro and set the suspension to road, the roads in colorado will crunch your wheels if not carefull. It does wallow a bit with the suspension set to road but I'm very adaptive and relatively used to that type of handling coming off an airhead no less.
The only problem with the RS is trying not to hot rod it and getting tickets and all that imo ...

I had an R100RS back in the day with panniers, and you used to get a very faint weave at what then was high speed. I broke the number plate by accident and the replacement had the display up and down so there was a gap between the panniers that was not there before. And it cured the weave, I put it down to the air eddying inside panniers space, then when the new plate made the space and stopped the eddying take place it solved a problem I didn’t really know I had.

🤷🏼‍♂️

Up to 90 m/h with my 100RT was just fine even with panniers. The 1200RT was good up to 136(gps reading). So is the 1250RS, absolutely solid. I don't know about the 1300RS but should be able to handle it, all the high speed runs were in Germany. I run Metz 02 tyers, fantastic especially in wet.

Yes. Although I'm still just finishing running it in, so starting to use more revs. The bike has been perfectly stable with the panniers both carrying around 5kg up to 220kph. No problems and feels same as 100kph.

Interesting you mentioned 02's. I had 01's on the rental R1250RS and also on the NT1100. Overall they were good but i always thought they lacked feel. I could never really feel what the tyre was doing. Especially the front. When trying to force the rear do react and do something, even though there was no real feel. It never snapped. And if forced it would for sure move but it predictable. But i dont know. It just lacked something. Connection. Feedback. Just never felt a good connection with what the tyre was doing. Even trying pressures from 2.2 to 2.8bar. On real hot summer days they went greasy but strangely never tore or peeled up. It felt like they were made from the same rubber as Welly Boots. Soft to touch. Bendy. But not sticky. Real weird rubber.

These Dunlops on the 1300 are fantastic. The feel is very good for a road tyre. Obviously nothing will feel like a race tyre straight off warmers. But I'm super impressed with them. Can actually feel what the tyre is doing. But I'm mindful that with the amount of commuting miles I do. They may be too soft and square off quicky.

The 02 Metzler was always the tyre i wanted to try. Generally Pirelli based tyres have soft carcasses and bend so so provide feel through this movement once you get used to it. But the 02 reads that it will perform well.

Its very rarely wet here. But some days it can be cold. 10 deg C etc. But also summer is hot at up around 35 plus. So I need a tyre that heats up quickly but can also handle higher temps. The 02 for sure look like the tyre for that.

In the initial reviews in wet test they came up vey well. Hence my choice. I am on my 3rd set, Metz do a sport set called Sportec 01( not to be confused with Roadtech 01) around £460 + fitting, and the RS which is a track rubber which you can use on the street, but it just came out so no reviews yet.
In 38C this summer the 02 behaved well, no melting on the edge or skipping. But I don't go ballistic.

Interested in some options.

First off. Had a hard day at work with insane clients. So took the bike the long way home through the mountains. Photos came out nice. But its a false image as really it was 11 deg. Freezing. And the low sun didnt dry the roads enough so it was damp and dirty from the recent floods.

But regarding options.
The blue boxes are from the base model. And the blue is different to the colour on the fairing. I can get the detailers at work to apply some vinyl. Change the blue panel to white. But I am also thinking of adding some colour. Stripes to match the fairing.

I put some ideas to AI. It has changed the whole outer side of the pannier to white rather than just the blue section. But it gives an idea.

I'm mindful I dont want it to look like a 3 series with a M Badge. But I do think the blue panniers are too much. And putting on white vinyl would be too plain.

Any thoughts good or bad on the AI suggestions? Bearing in mind on the bike there will be less white as its just the colour section that will be done.

It looks in keeping, colour-wise. Does also make the panniers look chunkier though, depends if that is an issue?

Yeah I agree. AI keeps changing the color of the whole outer side of the box. In reality it will only be the blue part that is wrapped. Maybe with just the white base it may be ok. I'll show him these photos and maybe he can add some slim coloured stripes or lines.

Caught some decent photos over the weekend. The bike as been PPF wrapped around the front end. Really deepens the black ⚫️. Still deciding on the design of the wrap for the panniers.

Covered over 500km over Saturday/Sunday looking for some new roads. The tourists are beginning to arrive here. I can see it from both sides because I've been there. But there were a group of 20 German bikes. All crossing the solid white line etc. Just brings negative attention.

So recently been heading out to explore less well known roads. Found some fantastic sections. Great tarmac and views.

Personally I would keep the panniers blue. Sport color looks a bit too much. I have the panniers off unless touring. I have a small 5l tank bag which is removable and can be used as hip bag. Everything I need fits in the bag. Or the small top box if I go in town.

Yeah I agree. I dont want to make it like a 3 series with M badges. The Performance isn't an M bike.

But the blue is a different colour and I think it looks too much. I'll get the guys to put some white vinyl and assess from there.

I do head out sometimes without them. But its handy to have them, for example, if I go somewhere and want to stop and explore. I can put helmet and jacket in the panniers.

The panniers definitely look like they're an after thought in their current colour. Out of the 2 AI photos I prefer the top one with the thinner blue and red lines though if you do try either I'd suggest you get the wrap done with the panniers on the bike so the lines on both the bike and panniers are at the same angle?

Yes exactly. I think i the bike would have looked better with the black panniers rather than the blue.

Our detailing/wrap guy asked the the same. I offered to leave the cases but he wants them on the bike to try and match lines etc. Also said it needs the bike to brace against to get a good stretch on it. I think white base. Then we can hold up various options of lines etc. For sure I think it may look too busy or too much. But its worth trying. Worst case I can wrap them satin black.

Starting this now. Did the first one in a base white to assess. I like it already. I'll make some blue and red lines to match the fairing and decide. But maybe it will look too busy

And with red. I dont quite have the correct colour of red. And I dont want to buy a full roll of vinyl so for now this will have to do.

I like it plain white. But I will use it with the red and blue stripes for a while and see if it grows on me.
