Right, i have first refusal of a 1985ish R80, it's an ex police one.
It's a bit rough!
However, it has brembo callipers.
I was wondering if anyone has ever used those ones to replace the swinging type callipers which are on my 76 R80. Are they any better for that matter?
I noticed the mountings are different(mine are on the rear of the forks), maybe i could use those forks.

Also i wondered if any one needed any spares.
It has all parts available. It also has a pair of Craven panniers and the rack too.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

John

You would be better off getting an 81-84 front end. This would give you the Brembo front end but allow you to keep your original front wheel. If you go for the 85 front end you will end up with the later design wheel at the front, obviously only an issue if you're bothered about cosmetics.

You cannot fit the brembo calipers to your ATE forks.

forks and brakes

Thanks for that, it's very helpfull.
I like my spoked wheels.
Is there anything you can do to modify and allow those forks to fit my wheel.
And would it really be worth the trouble?
Could the spares fetch a good price?

Regards

Nice big nut under the bottom of your ATE calipers...adjusted properly they are OK ( fitted to R90S  ). Leave it be...bike can only be worth a grand, so making these expensive fork/caliper changes just isn't worthwhile:thumb2

Then again, if ATE good enough for police riders...good enough for us, eh ? :)

The ATE front ends fetch next to nothing second hand.

If you have spoke wheels fitted then it adds to the complications. There are two different types of front hub. The later Brembo hubs (81-84) for spoke wheels have a narrower hub. If you fit the earlier spoked wheel the Brembo calipers hit the spokes.

I have a the later spoke wheel and forks fitted to my 78 100/7.

If you want to do the conversion then you will need the entire front end and a later spoked wheel.

A worthwhile mod for your existing front end is to junk the under tank master cylinder and fit a later handlebar mounted one. This is such a popular mod Motobins have put a complete kit together it's expensive though and you could source the parts second hand, however this adds further complications if you have an S fairing fitted.

A smaller master cylinder improves things a lot, and the 13 mm one from a single disk bike shouldnt be hard to find.
You will need a T piece too , but most Jap car wrecks will still have one on the firewall.
