Hi all,

I am in the process of re fitting the front wheel on my 1984 G/S. it didn't look right when I took the wheel out 2 spacers that looked very DIY. Firstly I am wondering if I have the correct spindle, does anyone know the o/l length, and the shoulder length. Secondly I have all of the parts but not the large spacer item 8 or item 7, the adjuster sleve, as per the Haynes manual.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Colin

Hi Tetly,

The wheels on the G/s need to be shimmed to give the correct pressure in the taper roller bearings. There's an internal spacer that's often referred to as a "wedding band" (item 4 in the picture below) I presume this is the adjuster sleeve you are referring to. If you haven't got the kit to do it it's worth paying somebody to do it properly as it effects the handling, and the longevity of the bearings, if it isn't right. Jim Hill is at Long Eaton so may be your closest indy http://www.ifixyourbike.com/

This is from the BMW g/s technical manual showing the components

Hi Rob,

Thanks for that info. Mine is definitely wrong. I don't have items 4, 5 or 6! Jim Hill is about a mile away from my office so I will give him a call.

Thanks Again,

Colin

Hi Tetley,

I'm in Long Eaton with an R80 G/S if you need to have a look/take some measurements

Glynn

Hi all, really struggling with the large spacer, no one has one. BMW still supply but not untill mid Jan. Glynn has very kindly offered to remove his wheel so I can get the measurements and have one made. Before he does this, does anyone have the measurements of this spacer. It's the large one that fits in the hub between the bearings. There is also a smaller one in there, called the adjuster spacer, I now have this one, hopefully it's the right size.

Big thanks to Gary at Bamw in Derby. He gave me a spindle with all of the spacers on (in the right order). Will be able to continue getting the bike back together at the weekend.
