Starting the return of the chopper bike to a G/S. I have the following costs:

Mudguard:
112 pounds - Motorworks,
38 pounds - Boxxerparts

Handlebars:
76 pounds - Motorworks
39 pounds - Boxxerparts

Despite the additional cost I am leaning towards Motorworks as I am presuming they are original BM parts and Boxxer's are paterned? Also Motorworks took the time to produce me a detailed quote for many parts, extra effort often wins my loyalty in this money driven world.

Peoples thoughts would be appreciated though so I can finally make up my mind.

Cheers

If you include the shipping costs then motorworks etc can come very close in price. But if you can do a deal with suppliers in Germany on VAT / shipping then as the € / £ rate has imporoved for us since around Christmas, then Germany could end up a lot cheaper.

€1 = approx £ around Christmas , now about €1.15 to £. A lot of prices were realigned around Christmas, as another example look at TT UK and TT Germanys prices.

Personally,I sway away from motorworks as they "let me" change a tyre (without offer of help)outside their door many moons ago when it was a monsoon. Soaked and very p***d off i can tell you !!
Still, they do seem as cheap as the other suppliers.

What about sherlocks or motobins ????????

Scan the three UK choices, sometimes there can be a big difference - no one gets close to Motobins on a full valve and guide kit for instance , and Motorworks have the odd item which is cheaper too.

The continental suppliers tend to specialize in ****ers bikes, as you might expect, and also in some rather crude pattern parts.
So if You are a cheapskate with a GS then they are for you.
I have bought a fair bit from BMW Boxer Supplies ------.

Always a variety of opinions on this one.

I've always found Motorworks very helpful and they gave me a lot of advice when I was rebuilding my g/s. They never argued if the bit I ordered didn't fit - just sent another, often FOC for 2nd hand stuff. I've heard others may be cheaper but I stick with MW.

I've always had good service from Motorworks. On more than one occasion they've actually talked me out of buying parts when I've been buying 'just in case' items prior to a big dissassembly (swingarm bearings for my 1100 for example - said it was a waste of money buying them at my mileage).

The internet is your friend, research research. Ascerbis makes mudguards and tanks for HPN and TT.
We use Motoworks and Bins for stuff we need quick or BMW, (BMW for Paralever Drive shaft, came with a longer warranty at £10 over MW cost) BMW dealer is on the way home from work so do not pay postage.
HPN for gears and special stuff
Boxer supplies so far OME BMW Shaft drive flange puller, measuring plate, Cylinders light weight pistons, Modified Toyota starters…ETC

The web, EuroElectrics from USA. Research for good stuff:beerjug:

AND EBAY!!!

You may be surprised by BMW's prices. I've found them significantly cheaper than any of the others for some parts. I've just been to collect a genuine Monolever Paris Dakar steering stop....cost the grand total of £1.10 including VAT and that included the postage.

extra effort often wins my loyalty in this money driven world.

Seems by the prices that motorworks are very money driven :D

BMW prices are cheaper on a hell of a lot of things, but people just assume the aftermarket must be cheaper without first checking.

Thank you for all the replies Gents. I think I'll try Motorworks. The BMW dealership here in Dubai is considerably more expensive, for example:

Speedo: Motorworks £160, BMW Dubai £260
Cockpit Housing: Motorworks £130, BMW Dubai £187
Mudguard : Motorworks £112, BMW Dubai £172

Interesting the Handlebars are similarly priced: £75 versus £65 Dubai (expect they made a mistake).

Still first problem to overcome is to get the bike registered in my name. They want a letter from BMW saying the bike exists. Nobody willing to sign anything here so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for all your help.

Billy
