For the past 800 miles every time I hit the starter button everything fired up no probs. Suddenly since last week if I press the button there is no reaction. Not even a click or anything. Sometimes if I keep on pressing the button or keep it in for a while it will suddenly kick into action and the starter motor will turn.

It seems to be worse when the bike is hot as I have now checked different variations of when it won't start. This morning no problem fired right up. Got to work 26 miles of which 10 city stop start riding and going slow in London with the closure of lanes. Stopped at work, turned it off and on and tried to start the bike - no go. Will check tonight when I get to the bike again whether it starts straight up or not.

Any suggestions where to start checking? My thoughts were that the push switch is not working or making contact although this is brand new. Why it won't turn over when hot is a different question all together again :eek

Ther have been a few bikes with simmilar problems reciently may be worth a search for mor detailed checks.

My first checks would be (in no paticular order) battery terminals, connections on starter, earth strap, and conections on the relay under the tank :thumb oh and check the starter is actually bolted up properly

The starter relay is linked through both the neutral switch or the clutch switch, to earth out. As long as the neutral light is working the starter relay should pull in, if it is not it should still pull in by pulling the clutch in. If both those are good then it may well be the starter relay. I've just been through all this............had to change the neutral switch and the starter relay............both of which I have since repaired, to be kept as spares!

From memory I replaced the starter relay before re-commissioning the bike, can't see that it would fry so quick or certainly don't hope so. I took the tank off this morning before I tried to start it and just fiddled with the connectors and made sure everything is plugged in properly. Fired up instantly. Rode into work and parked it up, switched off and then pushed the button again about a minute later and no problem. Will see tonight what happens when I leave for work. Possibly just the connectors vibrating loose which needs some sorting on the relay. The connectors and rest of the wiring seems to be tight and solid around the battery and earth point.

Electrical gremlins......got to hate them :eek :friday

Just an update, after pushing all the terminals into the relay it seems to have stopped the problem for now. Have not done it since whether hot or cold ....I can only hope :friday
