This is my genuine R80GS Basic, complete with luggage, single seat/rack, NOS kalahari tank (34L), upgraded charging system and Siebenrock 1000cc kit. Mikeyboy dld a complete no expense spared restoration of this bike a couple of years ago and it is absolutely perfect. Absolutely everything that can be done has been done. It has about 49k km’s on the clock. Paperwork all in place etc

My question to you dear readers is what do you think it is actually worth?

I've just googled the value, this is one of the most sought after models and values are between 8 and 15 grand, keep it its a beauty.

Not selling it (unless someone wants to make me an offer that can’t be turned down…..) but genuinely interested in the opinions of those wiser than me as to how much it’s worth

I was at magny cours services on it last week having a coffee and came out to find a couple of French guys on modern uber-BMWs drooling over it and asking more questions than I could answer with my somewhat limited grasp of their language

Would it be more valuable as an 80GS and not had a 1000cc kit fitted ?

Are original bikes more desirable?

I concur with mikeyboy….its 15k at least.

They are lovely bikes, and rare too ( only 3000 made I believe….and I’m sure they don’t all still exist)
Those in the know realise what they are, and how special they are.

Keep it, unless you really, really need the money ( and then , sell a kidney before you part with this gorgeous bike)

Not planning on selling, I was just looking at it in the garage after riding it last week and wondered how much it's really worth because when you look online prices for these have always seemed all over the place

Italians seem to love them. Basics and HP2E’s always seem to be advertised fo much higher prices in Italy.

I remember the Basic in dealers, in 1997/98 that were unsold
Went to a BMW rally in Berlin and visited dealer, Wudo in summer 1998
They had 3 unsold Basics languishing at tne back of the showroom that had sat there a year
With the advent of the new 1100’s with a much more advanced engine, chassis and brakes nobody wanted the old R80
I think they wanted £5000 for them - bargain basement pricing

Same story as the HP2’s.

Its a question of What YOU think it is "worth" to advertise it at and if someone on your wavelength wants that spec of bike to pay that amount

Fully restored, I believe that unrestored is what is more sought after

Non OE Build, Hmmm For sure yes, but definite improvements over original (Did it have the big tank when sold from the dealership? )

Everyone will see it differently

All I can say is put your own price on it and if thats how much you need to get then add 20% to that for your insured value

For me I see a lovely bike! But for years people have been waxing lyrically about a "Basic" Which in reality? Was just a parts bin special!

And that's not meant to be rude!! Or aimed at anyone in particular!!!

It's just that's what it was! End of :)
