It turned up yesterday

Thanks, useful tip.

Service kit arrived today so will most likely get cracking tomorrow.

If you haven't changed oil before I'd hate to see you change a tubed tyre!

Or even worse a reinforced motocross one with tyre grips - it would be entertaining to watch though.

And I’d hate to see you land a 787 in a 40 knot crosswind in the middle of the night.....:-)

Piece of cake with a decent manual, full engine rebuilds are all now possible in the warmth of your garage.
Land a 787, looks straight forward enough :blast but no manual available will this do to land one...:thumb

No it will not do !!

Bloody Wanker Tanker !! :-)

All done.
Changed the engine, gearbox and bevel drive oil.
Ok, there was probably no need to do the last two but nice to do it and get the feel of what needs doing.
New plugs too.

So 2.25 litres of Millers Pistoneze 20W50 along with the new filter, o ring ,gasket and shim.

Drain plug torqued to 30NM, filter cover bolts to 10NM.

Gearbox and bevel drive, 80W90 GL5 oil.

800mill for the gearbox, drain plug torqued to 26NM, filler to 31NM.

260mill for the bevel drive, drain and filler plug torqued to 23NM.

Nice work! And a feeling of satisfaction when you go out for a ride and come back without it pissing oil everywhere. :thumby:

And it will feel so much better to ride with new oil in engine and gearbox (well, my little R80ST always seems to run better once I change the oils)
... and a nice feeling to know you have done it all yourself, and not had to pay someone to do it for you.
Enjoy your ride.

I was surprised how dark the engine oil was.
I’ve probably only done 600 miles on it since I got it from Mikeyboy in about June 2019.Hopefully take it to France next year if this covid shite calms down......

That sounds so much easier than putting the bike on the centre stand with a bowl under the oil filter housing.

But on the centre stand the oil runs out as soon as as you loosen the bolts and take the cover off.. by putting onto the side stand, the oil doesn't. I understand that you change oil daily, but your Mrs doesn't scald you and beat you with a rolling pin for spilling oil on the path outside the house! :D

Besides, having it on at the angle it is easier to get at the bolts too!

Dark oil early is a good sign that the oil is taking all the rubbish out of the engine. Clean oil means it is not shifting any rubbish. May I suggest you remove the sump next time to see what build-debris you have? It would be quite normal to expect some especially if any moving parts were new.

More help please !!!

I ordered some lower, wider foot pegs from MotoBau a while back and they finally arrived today.
I’ve fitted them no problem but I now need to adjust both rear brake and gear lever down as the pegs are 6.5cm lower than the OE pegs.

There’s very little info in the Haynes manual and the online manual only has this :

I’m being thick but I’m struggling to work out what to do,as neither looks straight forward and that info above is to adjust any play as opposed to changing the lever positions......

Gear lever. If part 7 isn’t long enough you need to buy a longer one. The brake is trickier; you may need to heat up and bend it or get a new foot brake lever.
