hi guys - does anyone know if there's much difference between sub frames on r80r and the gs or g/s models? will a gs seat fit the r subframe?

It's a guess but I'm sure they're the same. I've had the 100r and gs and thought they were the same . Someone will KNOW soon enough:P

The g/s subframe has a different offset in the right support strut. It will catch the rear shock on a paralever. The side panel mounting lugs are on the opposite side of the struts as well. The mudguard mounting cross tube is in a different place to take the shorter g/s mudguard.

BAMW do a Basic style subframe to fit, they list it as fitting the standard Paralever R100/80 as well as the GS models, this implies the GS subframe would also fit the r100/80 R http://www.bamw.co.uk/parts/subframe-conversion.html

My Basic sub frame on the left. G/s subframe on the right. You can see the different off sets in the right strut as well as the positions of the cross member. The paralever subframes are much stronger than the g/s one as well.

No worries :beerjug:

I converted My 93 R100GS into a Basic look alike and spent ages combing through microfiches and buying wrong parts so always glad to help to save the pain.

very nice. I'm looking at an r subframe on eBay, and wondering if I could buy gs bits that would just bolt on to my naked RT when I fancied a change without resorting to cutting things. it's still in bits with heads at richie moores, will get it back together during winter.

Rob, so will the Basic subframe fit an the G/S? I have a standard, flimsy, one which is somewhat bent and wonder if the Basic one might make for a sensible upgrade.

Seems difficult to brace the original item - a lá HPN, et al - whilst retaining the standard silencer.

I'd of thought finding the Basic frame ( subframe ) wasn't that easy ? Unless you know of one, I don't think they are made anymore?

I could of course be wrong.

I think from memory Mr Farmer bought the very last remaining Basic subframe from BMW for the actual bike shown in the pics......

BAMW, as Rob says, list them on eBay but they're nearly £400. I know Motorworks and a few others occasionally have used, G/S subframes in stock for about half of that.

Basically, I'm just trying to think of a way to either brace or make the stock frame stronger whilst retaining a relatively stock finish.

The ones that Siebenrock, HPN, and Moorespeed make look great and robust however slightly out of place on an otherwise unmodified machine. Almost like a 50% special.

Er dont think you can buy ANY parts from BaMW now, ebay or not.......He has withdrawn his parts operation since becoming VAT registered (as he explained to me a short(ish) while ago)

That's very true, he had loads of parts when I was over not long ago and wouldn't sell anything at all. He said he is keeping all his parts for his own rebuilds :nenau
