Morning chaps,
Does anyone know if the R80ST was available from new with the RT fairing fitted? My brother in law has had one for 20-odd years, I haven't seen it for nearly that long, but I seem to remember a red ST with an RT fairing stuck on the front. It has been out of use for some years and was a regular commuter before that, so may need some major recommissioning work, but it is probably worth saving & may be rarer even than a regular ST...

All info gratefully received!

Cheers, Jon

Never fitted as standard, but perhaps a Dealer had it fitted at the time of Sale..?

never seen an RT fairing fitted, but used to see one with a fill Pichler fairing around York a few years ago. Wonder what happened to it. I've just got a little Givi screen, but if anyone out there has got a standard BMW headlamp cowl fairing for sale, I'd be interested.

Johnny.

Have sent you a PM.

I have a BMW cockpit fairing / headlight cowl available. As fitted as optional extra by dealers to R80ST, gathering dust, used but in good order with all 4 mounting brackets.

An update... I went to see the BIL's bike last week. It's in a bit of a sorry state, unused since '05, crashed, corroded & partly dismantled, bit saveable, and mine if I want it! Not quite the St Eptoe deal of the decade, but should be the makings of a nice bike. Stick some TKC80's on it, take the mudguards off, a bit of exhaust wrap should do it... :aidan

ST with RT fairing

JonT

I very recently purchased a ST ...which had a RT fairing attached. (grey ST.... grey/green RT fairing)
It, like yours, was in a sorry state..... had sat outside, unloved and unused for at least 3 years (last tax disc ran out Oct 2010) Bolts rusted, furry engine cases, green algae growing on it, etc etc.
I have removed the RT fairing, and am in the process of stripping it to get the frame, etc, powder coated, and
will then clean, polish, etc etc all the bits that need cleaning (most of it), prior to re-assembly.
It did run, but very poorly.... carbs bunged up with gunk I think. Will take them off and get them cleaned and overhauled. I intend a sympathetic overhaul/restoration, but am not aiming for pristine, more like "good, clean,
useable condition". If its too shiny, I will be afraid to use it.

Good luck with your new project.

Hi Bubb,
Yeah I saw your post about an RT faired ST. Funny, huh? Maybe some dealer was knocking them out at the time? The one I'm hoping to get is definitely saveable, and to some extent looks worse than it is, cosmetically, at least. the engine external surfaces are all furry, but that comes off without too much trouble. The rims look good, the battery box horrible. No doubt I'll find more when I get it home. I 'll revert mine to a naked bike too, and even if it doesn't come with a pair of panniers it has the frames, which I guess the panniers from my R100GS will fit. He (the BIL) said ages ago that he thought the clutch was seized, so I guess I'll be having the gearbox out, at least.

Goody, a project!

All bmw frames had the two threaded holes in the steering/frame stem to attach an RS/RT fairing mount. :D

I've got one of those.. No screen just completely solid, in red/bronze.. :D

Fairing cowl

If either of the 2 above mentioned fairing cowls as up for sale I am interested for my rebuild.

Thanks.

Hmm. I've just done a google image search for the nose cone in question. Is it just me who finds it a bit on the fugly side?
