R850GS smashed up backside by car....

My beloved red R850GS (W reg) was wacked up the backside by a damned car while stationary in a traffic queue in Wigan a week last Thursday.
I bought it last June, had a new rear tyre, just had its 36k service, new battery, new brake pads, new back disc-----all ready for doin' some decent trips this year.
My first big bike, just gettin' used to it.

Absolutely gutted, and I've hurt my ankle...
Damage to back, and front instruments when it hit the ground. Also plastics around tank.
Still starts, can engage 1st, but ?2nd? etc.
Insurance assessor coming tomorrow- 7th.
I have a bad feeling about it all.
Sorry to go on, but any advice, or help, please!!!!!

assume the third party that hit you is insured?

then get stuck in! you need a replacement vehicle... paid for by his/her insurance

keep every little receipt, every bus or taxi fare, log any time lost from work as a result and any expenses for medical treatment etc



make em pay fella

and don't let the assesor fob you off with any loada bollox!

Sorry to hear about your crash, never give up though. My ex-mate stuffed his VFR up my Remus a few years ago. It took 12 months to get him to give up and not contest it!!

By all means get the assessor to look at it, but get to the nearest BM shop, affter-all they do know the bikes - carriage at insurance expense. Stick the panniers on and check the sub-frame still lines up. ALso check where the sub-frame mounts onto the engine.

Good luck, bear in mind your bike is quite rare so if they offer you a price push for the sky.
 
IMHO and based on my own experiences

IF you have the space, make sure you keep the bike at home,
You have more chance of arranging a settlement including bike if they decide to write it off..
St Eptoe could probally repair it a lot cheaper than the BMW dealers/ repairers would quote.!
IF they want it taken to a dealer for a Quote, make sure you either take and bring it back yourself OR make it quite clear it MUST be returned to you after the estimate is made.
REASON. 1 way some dealers get repairable "write offs" cheap is by charging insurance a fortune for "storage" if vehicle is written off and the repair does not go ahead ...

1 of my bikes was "written off" as being uneconomical to repair.
Insurance quote of £2,560 .
I got settlement for value of bike and paid them salvage @£600 [because bike was at my address and not being released until I got a reasonable settlement]
Bike was repaired for £400....[ total cost just over £1000 with re mot etc]
Still got the bike :thumb
 
I had a post office van pull out on me and i could not stop in time ( knocked myself stupid, not sure ive ever really recovered:augie), my advise for what its worth is get a ruthless shark of a solicitor who will not be fobbed off, and who will ask for eveything on your behalf, no matter how trivial. Worked for me, and got me overtime lost, earnings, fuel cost to get me from the hospital home, costs to get back for check up etc.
worked out very profitable, and cost me nowt.

Very good advice I done the same and after being paid out they didnt bother to pick the bike up.
Another reason for not letting them take is when its in the assesors some toe rag will strip the bling off a mate had all his alloy wheels exhaust leather seats taken off his car even though he'd bought salvage the insurance company did'nt want to know and he had no photos prior to it being pilfered.

Another GSer required!

Roy from RGM reports he cannot come up with a realistic price to repair.
There was certainly a lot of damage.
So, it looks like I'm in the market for another GSer, gang.
Anything out there?
